I have a 3.55 and no problems with 6500 lb trailer. Gets better fuel economy then 3.73. Just make sure you get 3.55 elocker. Only get 3.73 if you are going to tow a lot.

I'd be curious to see how much "better" mileage is, considering the RPM difference between the 2 is only about 200 RPM at 120kph. My math sucks, and that's just an estimate, but I think the dif is negligible.

I went with 3.73 w/e-locker, but, if I wanted to lose some towing for better mileage I would opt for much lower gears, like 3.31's, or even 3.15's.

The 3.55's were just too close to 3.73 for me to opt out of the max towing just for a bit better mileage.

I would personal want the e-locker. Reasons why;
Regular driving, rain, snow, sleet on treated payment I would rather en open differential.
Heavy snow, mud, trying to pull something heavy on non-pavement, I'd want a full locker.
The E-locker gives you this.
Open diff is more civilized for day to day operation. I understand it activates only in 4x4 mod, however I am quite shure there is an override trick out there. As the locker has to be either energized or de-energized to engage and therefore there is a wire somewhere that can be isolated. I beleive on nissan trucks you can clip a wire and run it to ground with a switch. and now you have control on lock or no lock. In most case, if i am driving in the snow on treated roads, I'd actually preffer and open diff so when you start from a stop you get opposite corners pulling and tend not to have the rear walk sideways in 4x4 mode.

for sure 2013's E-locker can be run in 2x4.
On the 4x4 ****, simply pull it out and it activates the locker, no matter what mode you are in.

nice feature, I'm happy about it.
