towing w 2 wheel drive
The last time I took my 5000 pound (loaded) travel trailer to Whitney Portal I had no problem on the steep gravel portions of the road up w my 2014 F150 EcoBoost Crew Cab. I did have a problem backing my trailer into a paved but gravel covered camp site. The site was sloping down and at an angle from the campground road. I back to back and forward three times to get the angle right. The truck would NOT pull forward at an angle on the gravel; it just sat and spun one tire. Fortunately, I have the electronic locking rear axle which, once switched on, did the job without a problem.

You have to turn it off then, and try rocking back and forth. That;s how I got out of my last hole anyway ...

I pulled a 9'×18' enclosed trailer full of event props to Portland Oregon with my 2WD Titan. Pulled onto a gravel road that was wet from some sort of irritation field....close to grape vinyards. And going up a hill ! Needless to say I had my hands full....spinning out , could barely get that trailer up the hill- some drama.
After that I swore my next truck would be 4x4. Got rid of the :pos: 2WD Titan and got a 14 4X4 HD Package Off Road Boost...Best truck to date!

I pull a horse trailer with 2WD and don't have any issues. As a few others have said, you just need to be careful you don't put yourself into a situation where you would need 4WD. Many times, horse show parking is in an empty pasture, so I'm careful how and where I park, especially if the grass is wet. Even to the point, when it may be a problem, of driving the empty trailer to the closest gravel road before I load the horses for the return trip.

I towed a 3700lb camper with a two wheel drive colorado for 4 years and never had a problem in any camp ground we visited. Im sure you will be fine, just tread cautiously when it looks greasy.

You will be fine 99% of the time. And there is always somebody around to pull you out. I've pulled out a dually f350 that was stuck trying to pull uphill on wet grass. It was amusing and they were embarrassed but I told them it was no big deal.
