2016 F150 2.7L Towing 7000 Pounds 8% grade
#31
Is that 395? I towed that with a 7,200 pound box TT taking it from LA to Carson City NV and yes it was intense. I was down to 4th at about 50 mph with warm coolant & oil temps and flat on the floor for the last bit before tapering off. Yow thats hard on a truck. I've never had to push it harder than that day. Good thing I would need more truck.
I guess ultimately it would take more over the hill it would just be forced to do it at a slower speed in a lower gear. If you do it just don't be in a hurry.

2016 2.7 towing video
Nighhawk: Having had a 2011 3.5EB and now 2016 2.7 I agree with you completely. I have towed the same #5500 lb TT all over the west and Northeast and have never lacked power going uphill, regardless of grade, with either motor. There is probably a 300 RPM difference in any given gear (the 3.5 starts pulling at 1600 and the 2.7 has to wind up a little more to create some torque) If I had any complaint, (and I really don't) I find that the Tow/Haul braking with the 2.7 is noticeably weaker than the 3.5. Where the 3.5 would get down to 3rd on occasion coming down a long grade, the 2.7 will jump down to 2nd and wind up to 4/4500 or more. It works, but it sure seems to work harder than it's big brother. However, the upside is when the trailer comes off, I post a regular and honest 23.7mpg up and down the hills of Alabama which is 1.5 to 2 mpg better than the 3.5 ever did.

This is funny. I didnt know you were on this forum but you helped me make my mind up six months ago on the 2.7.
This video, TFLT towing up Ike and extensive test driving made me buy the 2.7 when I was originally looking for a 3.5

Absolutely love the truck. I was in the "no way 2.7 camp" until I seen it in action, then actually drove it. Did they sprinkle magic dust on 5his thing lol?
Blew away my friends also. Everyone has been like wtf.
Do any more towing keep the videos coming. Im buying a TT but it's not going to be as heavy as that jayco you got.
