Default 2015 Towing Numbers

Is anyone else concerned about pulling 12200 pounds or around that with a truck that is significantly lighter than last years. The truck could weigh half of the trailer. Im not an experienced tower so excuse my lack of knowledge here. It just seems like a properly loaded trailer might still be a handful in this truck.

I would highly encourage you to look at a 5th wheel type trailer if you plan to tow a heavy load. Because the fifth wheel attaches to the truck just ahead of the rear axle, it is much less susceptible to the "tail wagging the dog".

I agree with Ron AKA, either a 5th Wheel or Gooseneck will be the way to go. I tow at my trucks max and with the GN set up it works very very well. I have towed heavy on the traditional ball and it was much more sway prone.

With a lot of commercial tractor/trailers combos, the tractor is a lot lighter than the trailer. Properly set up, with a WDH or 5th wheel hitch, it shouldn't be a problem.

With a "bumper pull" trailer and WDH, I would also pay attention to the length of the trailer. The longer the trailer the bigger the "sail". A rule of thumb that I have seen is to divide your wheelbase by 5; that is around the upper limit of trailer length.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Now i just wish they would let us put the heavy duty package into an extended with 6.5ft box. i just dont think 8ft box is attractive or necessary for what i do.

I have the same issue here. Love the 145" wheelbase Scab with the 6.5' box. But there's no HD Payload option for it.

Have looked at the Reg Cabs with 8' box (same 145" wheelbase) where you can get the HD Payload. There may be enough room behind the seats for our junk, and if I get a cap with sidedoors/toolbox, it might be doable. But I really don't need an 8' bed, and I'm told that the 2015 Reg Cab is 4" shorter than the 2014 which could really restrict the space behind the seats. I'll have to see one first.

So our next truck may just end up being the longer SCrew with 6.5' box and HD payload. Or something completely different ... (Nissan heavy-half with 5L Cummins?)

You'll be out of payload LONG before you get near this phantom number.
