2015 Integrated Trailer Brake Controller malfunction?

So this is what I've been able to find out. We have had a couple of 15's in the shop to pick up their new trailer and have the same problem. What were finding out from them is that it is a factory problem and needs a computer re-flash of the ECM, to update the computer...

Had issues with my brake system when towing with my 2015 F150. The dealership had to replace both towing modules and the brake controller (brake controller was frying the modules) I haven't tried towing with it since they replaced everything but im hoping it is fixed. I'll let you know if it works.

Dealer said the truck was fine, tested it with a known good trailer. It either fixed itself in the week since I tested it with 4 other trailers at the trailer dealer, or the trailer dealer has all broken trailer brakes.
Thankfully, I didn't have to pay a diagnostic fee or anything. My trailer is in the dealer for a shower repair so I can't test it but I plan on stopping by there and plugging into their trailers again.

I Just tried my integrated brake contoller last week and everything was great for 8km. I had stopped and shut off the truck but when I restarted the truck I got an error message (Can't remember exactly what it said). When I put it in gear it locked up the brakes then the I saw smoke coming out of the controller. Straight into the dealer...they needed to determine wether the problem was with the trailer or the controller. It was the controller, switched it out and all is good. They told me at the time that some folks were having issues with the contoller modules, not all but a few.

Hmm.. they just wrote my truck off. They said mine was all good, wonder if they found something simple and fixed it and said it had no issues.
I just have to get my trailer back from the trailer dealer to test this out.

Ford has had that Integrated Trailer Brake controller for at least five years now. I ordered my 2010 with it.. I've never had one issue with it and I tow my 30 foot RV twice a year with it.
Just thought I'd let you guys know it's not new for 2015.

They plugged in the computer to read the codes/messages and said the voltage going in and out was correct. They could smell the smoke so new the unit had to be replaced and took a chance hooking up another truck to test it. This one worked fine. Done deal, back on the road.

Does your 2010 ITBC has a setup procedure for adding trailers as well? Mine seems to know when I've connected one trailer vs another. I have the enclosed trailer with trailer brakes and a regular utility trailer with the 4 pin harness. When I connect the utility trailer, it says a trailer connected, go into the trailer setup menu and it shows the name I assigned to the utility trailer. Same for the enclosed trailer.
If yours doesn't have that setup procedure, I wouldn't say it's the exact same. Does your 7 pin plug always have 12v between the - and + pins? Mine doesn't. The pins for the lights only have 2-3V when the trailer isn't connected.

Not sure about the voltage...only repeating what the service manager told me he saw on his laptop. My truck is a 2015 and yes it has a set up procedure for each trailer...both my trailers are 7 pin. I will find out this weekend if the other trailer will connect without issue.
