2015 F150 with 3.5 turbo & max tow?
I am close to puling the trigger on ordering a '15 Lariat 3.5 turbo, super crew with heavy duty tow package. My boat weighs ~8,500 lb (measured) when towed light. I get 9-9.5 mpg towing at 62 mph in Florida towing with a 2003 Tahoe with a 5.3 liter engine and heavy duty tow package.
Is anybody towing a similar weight on level ground with a '15 Lariat and what kind of mileage do you get?
I've heard rumors that the '16 will have an 8 or 9 speed transmission? Will the new models have more gears and shouldn't that improve non-towing mileage?

I have a '13 screw 4x4 with 3.5tt towing a 6500# boat getting average 15 mpg. I don't see why a 2015 should be much different.

Instead focus on the great towing ability of the Ecoboost engine and the great Ford payload. You won't believe the difference from the "torqueless" Chevy 5.3
You know that a 8 to 10 speed automatic is coming; but timing is speculative. My speculation is 2017 at the earliest; but who knows.
I'd say buy the 2015 and enjoy it. Have fun!

Any improvement in mileage will help seal the deal with the wife. We're paying cash and writing the check from one of her accounts, so it matters even though the numbers aren't really important.

You drive down the road going 30-35?
OP......I don't see you getting any better MPG with the F150........Unless my track is a gas guzzler!!!!!

I agree!!
In my 2013 3.5 EcoBoost when I'm NOT towing I get 14-14.5 mpg around town, and maybe 17 cruising at 65 mph when on the interstate.
I don't have a boat, but I tow a 6500 lb enclosed car hauler. It's a low profile trailer (6'11" high) and probably has more drag than a boat, but towing on the interstate in the flatlands I get maybe 9.5-10 mpg.

The f150 will get 10-12 mpg with a boar. Boat is more aerodynamic than an enclosed trailer... That's what I get at 65-70 depending on wind direction. 15 ain't going to happen unless you have a tailwind and it's flat....

With the standard payload capacity, your 8,500 pound boat will probably result in an overloaded F-150. You'll have more than enough pulling power (GCWR and tow rating), but you'll probably bump up against the GVWR (payload capacity) of the F-150.
So add the Heavy Duty Payload package (627) to your order. Then you won't have to worry about how much weight you add in the truck or boat when towing.
Also add the PowerScope trailer tow mirrors. With that big of a boat, you'll need them, and they are no longer included as a part of the max tow pkg.
The EcoBoost engine can be either ECOnomical or BOOSTed for more power. But not both at the same time. When you are cruising along without the twin turbos working, then you get fantastic MPG. Your wife will be pleased. But when you turn on those turbos to get more BOOST, then MPG goes out the window. And dragging an 8,500 pound load means the twin turbos will be working often. So you can get 20 MPG if you baby the truck when not towing, but half that when towing at highway speeds.
