Default 2013 FX4 5.0L Enough Power for TT?

I want to start by saying I'm not trying to start another 5.0 vs EB battle, just attempting to get some advice from some people who have more experience towing than I have. This is my first TT.

I am planning on putting in my order for a truck (2013 FX4 Screw, 6.5 bed) in the next couple of weeks, but I am still trying to decide between the 5.0 or the EB. I have some concerns that the 5.0 might not have enough power to pull my trailer. The TT weighs 6750 dry...I'm not sure about the loaded weight.

The primary use for the truck is going to be a daily driver/commuter. I would only be towing a couple times a month. Most of the trips would be within a couple of hours of the house with a couple long trips a year (1200+ miles round trip).

Is the 5.0 going to be enough or would I be better off going with the EB and max tow package?

This You will probably be good either way but I know from experience that there is a good chance you will want to upgrade the TT at some point and you want to know that you have plenty of capacity to go larger. I know many will not agree with me but ehh... IMOP

Now, having come from an 07 5.4L the two trucks are night and day. I honestly didn't think I would notice that much of a difference but wow! Love my new EB w/ Max Tow.

My TT is not as heavy as yours but the 5.0l has great power. Just got back from a 6 hour trip each way to Death Valley. Was fully loaded with water, etc. and there are some 9% grades in the area as well. The desert floor was over 90 degrees and had the A/C on as well. The only advice I can give you is make sure you get 3.73 gears. The only regret I have on my truck (I have 3.55's). Going to have some 3.73's installed in the fall after some big trips I have planned over the next 4-5 months.

I absolutely agree with RubiconRob. I have a 30' TT that weighs around 8700lbs when I hit the road and my 5.0 (with 3.55) pulls it just fine. It will hit the higher rpm's when going uphill, but it hits 3,500 and just keeps pulling, no shortage of power at all. But, 3.73 gears would be a lot better off the line as well. That's my only regret. Enjoy the season and your new ride.

I will definitely make sure I get the 3.73 gears. I plan on trying to keep this truck for about 10 years which is why I'm leaning towards the 5.0 instead of the EB. I think the 5.0 will end up being a cheaper in the long run.

If your buying the truck specifically for towing a couple times a month then you would be happier with the Ecoboost plain and simple. My trailer is 6500lbs dry and between 7500-8000lbs loaded and i never see anything over 2500rpms maintaining 65mph on the hills and usually around 1700rpms on the flats. It just makes your towing experience that much more enjoyable. I also plan on keeping my truck for ten years..

Hmmm .....
the 5.4 had 300HP/365Ft-tor
Chev 5.3 has 315HP /335Ft-tor
The 5.0 has 360HP/380 FT-tor

so why would it not be enough to tow a TT? think about 20 years ago and people towed Heavy TT's with not nearly the HP trucks have now .
I see lots and lots of 5.4`s and Chev 5.3`s pulling trailers

Hey new here. I pulled a 28' TT weighing about 6500 fully loaded with my '06 Silverado 5.3L and it did alright. Down shifted a lot to stay above 100KPH but handled it fine. I'm just on here down some research before I go get myself a new F150 SCREW. I should probably add that while my Chevy has a tow cap of 8500 it has 4.10 gears which helps.

No one said it couldn't tow a TT. The 5.0 is a beast of a motor and I'm sure it would out tow the 5.4L and Chevy 5.3L hands down. It can also tow just about anything the Ecoboost can it just wont feel as effortless because of the low end torque curve on the Eco.

This.

The low end torque of the EB makes it pull so nice. Even with my 3:55 gearset it will lope along at 1500-1700 rpm effortlessly with my 7500# TT.

The 5.0 will pull it but it will be turning quite a bit more rpm doing te same amount of work.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 5.0 (my dad has one). But for my pulling needs my EB fit the bill.

I pull probably 5k miles a year, with a couple of 800 mile round trips in there and the rest around 150 round trips.
