Default Trailer Brake Controller

I need a recommendation for a good inexpensive trailer brake controller to occasionally pull a small travel trailer. Nothing just fancy just needs to get the job done for a dual axle trailer.

For aftermarkets, an inertial controller like the Prodigy P2 or P3 is the best.
But even better is Ford's built-in controller. Dunno if its available for the 2006.

The really cheap controllers are time-delay units. I had one but gave up on it.

The Prodigy is the standard by which all the inertia controllers are judged. And they have vehicle-specific wiring harnesses that make them plug 'n play to wire in your truck. I have my P1 Prodigy mounted in the factory dashboard location.

I second the The Prodigy, you may be able to get cheaper, but in the long run it will cost you more if the TT is small enough you can skip the controller. My popup had brakes, I would occasionally pull it with My Ranger. I would just plug it in to my 7 pin, I never ran the controller as I really did not need it.

I too went with a cheap one at first and never liked it. Kept reading a out how good the Prodigy was so I finally bought one and what a difference it was. The cheap one was always jerky and I could never get it dialed in just right. The Prodigy is so much smoother and it automatically adjusts to how hard you are breaking. Be safe and get the Prodigy. You will be thankful you did after the first time you use it.
