Default 2013 ecoboost 3.55 gears towing 10k goosneck load

who here toss a goosneck with their ecoboost? I currently tow a 20' gooseneck with 2 side by sides on it. I'd roughly guess the weight at 7k. It pulls fine. I'm buying a bigger trailer and it weighs 6k dry putting me at 10k total. I don't have max towing on the truck but I think I have the tranny cooler. Suggestions? Thoughts?

Forgive me here, but a trailer that weighs 6,000 lbs to pull two side by sides is a little overkill. Not that you couldn't do it, but why? That's kind of like using a sledgehammer to swat flies. You can get an aluminum 26ft deck over that weighs 2000lbs. Maybe there's more to the story. Perhaps your planning for the future and thinking about a super duty. If you do get that heavy trailer, it won't be long and you'll be wanting to haul something much bigger and heavier. The next thing you know, you'll be on here asking if you can haul your uncles 15,000lb tractor, and using the weight rating of the trailer to try to justify it. Hehehe. Not trying to bust your *****, just trying to figure out the logic. Those are some nice rides ya got there.

Here we go again but it is all about your payload capacity and the pin weight of the trailer. Honestly, your truck looks like it is squatting already with this setup. Go to a scale with your loaded trailer. Put just the truck on the scale. Look at the weight and compare it to your GRWR.

LOL

Yeah, just based on your truck it looks like its a higher trim level and no max tow means your payloads probably on the low side and the one Can-Am is already completely in front of the trailer axles.

Power wise i think you are fine with the Ecoboost and 3.55

The drive train has more than enough power. Without more info it is hard to say, but it appears that you are already overloading the suspension. That is the weak link.

You're probably overloaded over the GVWR and payload capacity of your F-150 with the current loaded trailer. If it grosses 7,000 pounds wet and loaded and has average hitch weight of around 20% of gross trailer weight, that's about 1,400 pounds of hitch weight on the ball.

As others have suggested, weigh the rig on a CAT scale. Combine the weights on the front and rear axles of the F-150 and compare to the GVWR of the F-150. If your weight on the axles of the F-150 exceeds the GVWR of the F-150, you're overloaded.

A heavier gooseneck trailer would still have around 20% hitch weight, so if your new trailer grossed 10k when wet and loaded, that's 2,000 pounds of hitch weight. I suspect your payload capacity is nowhere near 2,000 pounds.

Thoughts? If you're overloaded, you need a different tow vehicle with more GVWR and payload capacity. Overloaded is not cool.

If you don't want to upgrade to a heavier-duty tow vehicle, then maybe trade for a conventional equipment trailer with a tongue instead of a gooseneck. Tongue trailers average around 13% tongue weight instead of 18% to 20/% or more for a gooseneck. For a 7k tongue trailer, average hitch weight would be around 900 pounds. For your 7k gooseneck trailer, hitch weight is probably over 1,250 pounds, and more than likely about 1,400 pounds. A gooseneck trailer loaded to 10k would be out of the question if you don't want to be severely overloaded.

As others mentioned, your 3.5L EcoBoost drivetrain will have no problem dragging a 10k trailer. I have towed a lot heavier gooseneck trailer than that with mine, and I arrived at my destination with no problems other than being severely overloaded.

Default defense

to this guys defense my 2011 F150 looks squatted like his with a 16' enclosed tandem axle trailer with WDH weighing 3400 loaded. I have installed helpers to correct but that is one thing I can say for sure is these trucks just squat like crazy.
