Well my average, unloaded, is 20 mpgUS. But I live in a rural area and drive like the old man I am.

There are a few possibilities:
- you have a lead foot
- you spend a lot of time idling at stoplights and stop/go traffic
- your mods (tune, lift?, big wheels?) have destroyed your mileage
- your truck is bonkers.

There are some threads in the engine forum with people complaining about their mileage. Seems a few stock trucks do have problems getting decent numbers for some reason. Might check there and complain to your dealer.

2 things:

1) Slow down. There is a huge decrease in mileage for every 5 mph increment in speed. I've towing a 5,500 lb RV trailer over 6,000 miles in all conditions and altitudes. I tow at 60 mph. My average fuel economy is 11 mpg while towing. I've seen below 9 mpg in heavy headwind and huge hills. I get 11.5 to 12 on the flat or small rolling hills with no wind.

2) Don't use your cruise control if it is hilly. Let your speed fall going uphill and gain speed going downhill. Using cruise in hilly areas definitely reduces your fuel mileage.

The Ecoboost is an awesome towing machine; great torque at low rpm. But it is also very powerful. Get into the boost heavy and use that power, and you are going to use fuel.

I bought my Ecoboost for the boost, not the eco!

I don't have a lead foot brulaz for 1 and I do set the cruse but like I've said towing at 65 mph I get 8 to 9 mpg u can't tell me a little bigger tire and a level kit is gonna make me lose 10 mpg empty that ridiculous , and a tuner isn't gonna kill ur mileage either, I think it's bs and false advertisement , if I knew then what I no now , I woulda went with the raptor. My Titan pulling the same trailer got 13. I deffeinatelly do not feel the trailer behind my Eco that is really Kool. My Titan always was downshifting , but for all the downshifting it did I still got better gas mileage with it that my ford. I still don't no what the hell is goin on tho.

Here's a thread with 303 pages of people discussing their good or bad ecoboost mileage: https://www.f150forum.com/f70/ecoboo...7559/index303/

Maybe you'll find some answers there. I've heard that sometimes the sparkplug gap is not set right?

Good luck.

I pull a 4700# enclosed trailer.

When I run at 65mph I get 9 MPG.

When I run at 71mph I still get the same 9 MPG.

Go figure.

A little bigger tire can make a lot of difference. Some real some fake. Real if the tire is heavier. Fake if you didn't get your speedometer calibrated to adjust for the larger tires. Remember, one rotation of a larger tire is more distance than the stock. If you don't reprogram it the computer is wrong.

A tuner absolutely can kill mileage also. It may or may not be your problem but it is possible. A level also can hurt a bit. But frankly worrying about mpgs while towing is pointless. If you tow enough that you are worried about it hitting the wallet you should have gotten a diesel.

Larger tires make the engine work harder, a level allows more air drag under the truck. And, of course your speedo and MPG gauge are wrong unless you've corrected for the change. You are actually going further between fill ups than your odometer and the PCM indicate. Your 65 mph is probably really 68-70 and that can really impact fuel mileage. I've found that a good tune doesn't hurt and may help fuel mileage.
