Default 2012 f150 Brake controler wiring

I have a 2012 f150 stx that im hooking up a non oem brake controller on. My problem is I don't have the 12 volt power cable and brake controller wires at the rear of my truck. I have read a post and seen pics of them being located on the driver side under the hood but would like to make sure before I go cutting wires. would love to have pics of someone that had to cut these wires. thanks for any help you can provide.

Do you have the tow package? If not find the 4 way plug at the rear and follow the wires back. If you look for the t connector where the 4 way comes off there are usually all the wires for a 7 way plug coming into the t and you simply get the 7 way plug to plug into the connector. As far as under the hood not sure but with my tow package a wire bundle for an aftermarket brake control was included along with the needed fuses and relays. Those you can get at the dealer or on ebay I sure.

Your truck should have come with a wire pig tail that will connect to the aftermarket controler and then plug straight to the plugin point under your dash right of the steering wheel. and that will be already to your trailer socket by your hitch, real easy. If your truck didn't come with one the dealer can sell you one.

I have the hitch and use to have the 4 pin plug but I installed the 7 pin plug. at the rear of the truck at the factory wiring all I had was the wires for the 4 pin and that's all. it don't have the wires for the 7 plug 12 volt and brake wires at the rear. what I have read the wires are under the hood on the driver side they are orange and blue but would love to have some pics of someones install. thanks

I had a similar experience with a 2010 Expedition that didn't have the factory tow package. The dealership told me the difference is in the rear harness, which connects somewhere over the gas tank. The cab harness has all the wires, but the rear harness needs to be changed out to get the remaining functions (battery charge, reverse lights and brake supply) to the rear of the truck. I only needed the reverse light to activate the brake dump feature on my boat trailer so I just tagged into back-up wire at the left tail light assy.
