This morning, I extracted the pins from the 20270 cable and reinstalled them to conform to the 20272 cable pin-out. Trailer brake works! .. finally!

The only thing left, to complete the project: is to get a charging relay and install it in the Power Distribution box.

This project has been way more work, than it should have been. Only in regards to the research, as the information is scattered all over the Internet. Also, it would have been nice, if Ford had run the wires to the back!

BTW: The charging relay, should be a 8T2T-14B192-AA or 8L8T-14B192-AA. (4 pin)

'cept this used truck didn't have the tow package. I guess, I should be thankful that they included, what they did.

Just pulling your leg.
Great that you were able to figure it out and pull it all together.
Was surprised when the dealer only installed a 7 pin wired to the 4 pin.

Received and installed the Charging relay today .. charging system, now working. Project complete!

I thought, this diagram might help some, figure things out. There are two additional factory connectors (not shown, one mounted on the left/front/inner fender and the other, back by the spare tire), between the Trailer Brake connector and the rear 7 Pin connector.

Was the wiring harness located where eTrailer mentions it to be? On the driver side, above the frame and spare tire? (ist the orange power wire in that harness as well as the blue brake controller wire?) I'm doing this installation this weekend, and really hope I have got all of the correct information. Your feedback would be appreciated.

If you have the factory tow package: The Blue and Orange wires should be run to the back. If you have the factory 7 pin plug, the wires should be attached. The other option is, they might be in the sheathing and not showing in the back. The third option, if you don't have factory tow, they'll be on the left front inner fender, at the connector shown in previous posts.

The trailer brake controller plug is on driver's side by steering column. You'll need to remove the half of the plug with no wires (sometimes referred to as "the cap")

You won't need the Orange wire, if you don't have a "break-away" battery or a trailer, which would need "charging".
