Default 2006 F150 Harley Davidson Towing Question

Hey all! New to the forum here. Just bought my first Ford truck - 2006 F150 Harley Davidson and I'm trying to figure out if I can tow a greater load with a change in the tire/wheel combo. With the stock 22" rims I only have a 5800lb tow cap but I've heard I can get it up to around 8600lbs if I change the rim to 17" or smaller. From what I understand it's an issue with the gear ratio, so can that be changed with a rim swap or do I need to do something else? Thanks for any responses.
