You can add more stuff into the truck, but it doesn't allow you to pull a heavier trailer? My payload is 1865 and I can pull the same trailer as the HDPP trucks as we are both limited by the 1200 hitch rating. Isn't this correct?

I looked at my Dads 7.2 turbo diesel Excursion (which I believe is on a SD frame) and it also has a 1200 lb hitch rating too. How are HDPP 150s or 250s pulling heavier trailers when they are all limited to the same hitch ratings?

By this logic, his SD PS diesel can't legally tow anymore then my max tow 3.5 EB 150.
I wrote a novel but let's simplify.

Is the basic question?
How do people pull a 1600 lb pin weight tag legally when the Hitch is 1200 lb?
They buy a higher rated hitch.

Payload really does matter. Friends Ram Rebel has 1068 payload and with wife, three kids and a cooler has about 200 lb left. He is very close to GVWR (maybe over) with a bass boat.

That would be a step up to a Class V hitch with a WDH of 1700 pounds, and for those you have to go up to at least a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck, since they don't make Class V for an F150.

Looks like your correct. Nobody makes the 1500/15000 WDH rated Class IV for it (under 1600 I know but I've had one in the past). Both the Class III and Class IV top out at 1200/12000 WDH apparently.

Guess he will need a Custom Hitch or a Toad.
