Default Which 2.7?

Hey guys. About to purchase my first F150 (had my ram 1500 forever) and am not sure which truck to go with. First truck is a 16 screw with the 3.73 and payload pkg (door sticker says 1800lbs). Second is a 15 screw with the 3.55, no payload pkg (haven't seen door sticker yet). Everything else is identical. Tow pkg, 36 gal tank, etc...

Money talks and the 15 is cheaper by 2k and may even get it cheaper since it's a 15. My question is will i regret not getting the 16 with the axle and payload? Tow a flagstaff 25bhs 5 times a year out in the Rockies. I don't have exact weights on the trailer but the gvrw is 6300lbs. But I really don't load the thing to the max.

What do you think. I don't want to think "I shouldve..." after buying it.

Get the 16 with the gears/payload. That trailer is going to have a typical road weight of about 6000 lbs. Buy once, cry once. I can't begin to count the number of people I've seen "convince" themselves that they can get by with the lesser/cheaper vehicle and then regret it for remainder of their ownership. You will "would'a - could'a - should'a yourself to death.

Paykoad package - maybe. But if you are towing in the Rockies then yes you'd really appreciate the 3.73 gears. I've owned all three gear sets and the 3.73 is great for towing up steep grades. The bigger Eco can get by with the 3.55 but even that engine with lots more low end torque has a big difference in towing between the diff gear selections.

The 2.7L V6 EcoBoost Payload Pkg (622) has the heavy duty rear axle, with 3.73 ring gear and pinion, and 9.75" gearset. Yes, you want that.

It also includes the mechanical parking brake, replacing the standard electric parking brake on the standard V6 and 2.7L EcoBoost. 5.0L V8 and 3.5L EcoBoost have standard mechanical parking brake, so I guess the mechanical is stronger than the electric.

I would have thought the HD payload package offered more than just 1,800lbs?

It's not the HD payload package, it's the 2.7 ecoboost payload package. All it does is make the gvwr of the 2.7 truck the same as a standard 3.5 truck with a 9.75" rear.

Ended up getting a new 15 3.5L EB screw with the 3.55. Was cheaper than both of those 2.7's I was eyeing! Happy with my purchase. Can't wait to try it out with the rig!

What is your payload? Short or long-bed? Congrats!

Not the best pic because it's in my garage, but it's proof. Need to get it tinted... looks a little weird without it.
