1999 XL Step Receiver????
Want to put a step receiver on my 4.2 manual. Just need it for a bike rack (I can't tow much with this truck anyway)
Trying to avoid the cost of a full hitch, and trying to avoid crawling around a junkyard trying to loosen rusty bolts.
Only things available locally were these, and neither one fit:
http://www.harborfreight.com/5000-lb...ver-69670.html
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Reese-Towp...eiver/15125807
The underside of the step has not only a lip that prevents anything from bolting flush against the step, but also a bracket welded onto it that gets in the way. Am I just stuck going full hitch on this? I'd rather not carve up my bumper either.

If your step bumper is stock with no alterations, then this receiver should bolt on:

But if that bracket has been welded on after the truck left the assembly plant, then I doubt you'll be able to find a bolt-on receiver that bolts onto the bumper without surgery to remove that bracket.
Why not just add an inexpensive receiver? Here is the least expensive frame-mounted receiver I can find at eTrailer.com.

So bite the bullet and order that receiver for $152 with free shipping. It bolts onto the back of your F-150. You can DIY. 600 pounds max weight of bike rack, which should be plenty of weight capacity.
