O I'm pretty in tune w motors and trans but I have a simple question. Why 1000 miles before the first tow. I thought they ran these trucks before they were actually given to us. Is it the tranny? I think I will be close to my 1000 but my buddy is picking up a 2012 f150eb and doesnt think he's going to make it before we take our trip to mackinaw. He and I both tow 28ft TT he is getting his w the max tow. What should his worries be?

I look at the restrictions more from an ag side of things, they are gonna get worked within the first few hours pretty good, they just recommend for the first ??? hrs that you find what gear/load it pulls well in, then downshift a gear and back off the throttle a little so you don't strain the motor so much for those first XXX hrs. Basically I don't worry about towing, I just don't work it real hard (truck or tractor) untill there is a little time on it. Take it a little easier/slower up hills and no full throttle stuff untill he gets a few more miles/hrs on it. Do the new trucks have an hr meter? I don't know if my '08 has some way of displaying it threw the little message center like my '05 dodge did. On that I had to do some key cycle thing to diplay it. I went more off of the hrs for service stuff than miles. The records are still trapped on a computer with a dead motherboard, but there were some huge differences in miles vs. hrs from one oil change to the next. I wish they would get away from mileage only when it comes to some service and usage things. Maybe one could think of it this way for the 1000 mile before first tow thing: One person drives long distance (maybe freeway) or takes a trip empty with it, the other daily local drives it. Who really has the more 'broke in' vehicle when they hit 1000 miles? I bet the hrs on their engine/tranny would differ greatly. Just my .02, if he is getting close to that mark, take it a little easier on it this trip.
I towed my 26' trailer with only 500 miles on my truck. If something goes wrong that's what warranty is for. F it!!!
I had the same mentality with my 07' FX4 when i towed my 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer on a 8hr trip up north with only 380 miles on the truck. When we got home i began to notice a slight howling noise coming from the rear. It wasn't that noticeable so i didn't really think about it. That is until it got real noticeable just over 37,000 miles when it decided to let go. Of course it waited until i was just out of warranty!!

I don't think it's the engine so much, it's breaking in and seating the rear end gears. IIRR GM says 500 miles before towing.
X2!

From 380 miles to 37,000 miles hmmmm sounds like YOU waited, not the truck.

I couldn't agree more. If that was my truck I would of had it in several times if they said they couldn't find anything over and over and then at 37000 something went wrong I would be getting that covered from them. Plus in the that 36000 mile timeframe other things could of caused mechanical failure
