Default

I plan on getting some different fender flares, but that is down the road. I did paint the inside of one emblem but I liked the all black better. Haven't thought about the mirrors, but will keep it in mind.

Default Start HID retrofit

Since I live in the Atlanta area, I went to The Retrofit Source storefront and got a BI-XENON MORIMOTO MINI STAGE III KIT (H1). The shrouds I got are a prototype and not in production yet, I forget their name. I took them because of the great price.

Default Taking apart headlights

After removing the headlights from my truck, I was ready to heat them up so I could pull them apart. Preheated the oven to 270 degrees and stuck the first one in and waited 7 minutes as recommended by TRS. After 7 minutes took the first set out and tried to pry a corner apart, with no luck. Stuck it back in the oven for 5 more minutes, and when I took it out was able to pry it apart. So stuck the other headlight in the oven for 12 minutes and when done able to pry apart. There is one screw that needs to be removed from the back of each headlight before heating, it is located next to the turn signal light hole.

Default Getting to the chrome bars in headlight

I am painting all the chrome in headlight black. In order to paint the chrome divider bars I had to remove 3 small screws that held the dividers onto the lens. I was able to pop off the amber side marker off.

Default Mounting the wiring

I mounted the wiring harness next to the battery. The small red square on the right hand side of the pic is the in-line fuse. After sanding off some of the paint on frame just in front of each wheel well I mounted the ballast and the ground for each headlight.

I also started painting the projector shrouds and the interior of the headlights. That was enough for today. Tomorrow finish painting and start putting the projectors together in the headlight assembly.

Default Projector mounted

Today I got the projectors mounted today. I had to modify the headlight assembly to get the projectors to fit. As suggested by TRS I put the mounted projectors on my truck to check and make sure they were installed level. I also painted the shrouds and modified them to fit.

I want to get rid of the orange side marker, so I went to Lowes and bought a small florescent light fixture lens. I plan on using the orange side markers as templates to cut out new clear side markers.

Tomorrow plan on mounting shrouds onto projectors and sealing the headlights.

Default Retrofit completed

Attached the shrouds, put the assembly back together and then into the oven to bake. I went a little heavy with the sealant to ensure don't get any moisture inside. I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow and see if I used enough.

The idea I had about making clear side marker lens didn't work. The material I got was to thin and I had no way to secure it in place, so ended up putting the orange lens back on.

If anyone has any questions about retrofitting their headlights I will be glad to give you my perspective. My hat goes off to tuxedoblack11 and Bilinvic, because doing a retrofit is not as easy as it seems and these guys keep on doing it. You all don't have worry about me getting into the retrofit business.

Do you have more pics of the baking process?
