That post blows my mind. If I see a commercial product that I like, and I want to build one for personal use, there is nothing stopping me. The patent just doesn't come into play in that scenario. @Andre Hall, see my avatar for more information.
RE: putting a battery in your toolbox... I was thinking about doing something related (sue me), but I was wondering about the need to vent off gasses. You may want to consider that if you put a battery in a small enclosed space.

Haha. Wow that was ridiculous. What he doesn't realize is that patent covers his specific idea, unless he's got a special patent that has the idea patented he's just talking. You could directly copy his idea and design and would be clear if you changed a few little dimensions. For example, YETI, RTIC, ENGEL, Pelican, etc. They ALL make rotomolded coolers, and are all very similar, primarily YETI and RTIC. Neither is being sued as they're enough different that there's no issue.
Sweet idea though. I debated doing this with my last truck as far as the sound system. I was thinking of building a small box below the toolbox with the battery storage. What I would've done is build a box, then put a lid somewhere above to keep most elements off of it. Then put a strap of something to hold the battery secure. No gas issues at that point. I won't even threaten to sue if you use that idea.
