My dad's old F150
About 3 months ago, I got into a little trouble in my car and it was down for about a month. My dad who has always looked out for me in more ways than one, sold me his 2001 F150 Supercab 4x4 for 1,000$. The truck has 225k miles on it and was his old work truck. As I have now gotten my car back on the road, I have parked his truck in my shop and it's time to give back to my old man. My dad is a construction worker and this truck was used for 8 years as a work truck. Needless to say it's seen it's better days. I am going to post pictures of this build as I go and I plan on giving it back to him November 30, 2014 on his 50th birthday. I've been reading on this forum for a few years just never made an account, just used the information you guys post to better my vehicles but I think it's time I start giving back. I want to post everything I do to this vehicle in this thread and I would like feedback on everything I do, and help as I need it. I've learned so much from members like 2000MTZ and BrowningSCrew that I figure it's time I contributed.
What I'm currently working with as of right now, October 07, 2013.
A stock 2001 F150 Supercrew 4x4 Stepside.
Only modifications I've done in the month I've had the truck is buying an aftermarket LED Third brake light assembly which I love and the lighting at night is phenomenal. I will post pictures tomorrow when it's daylight out. The truck currently has 225k miles on a stock 5.4l with cloth bench in front and back. The truck is blue with tan cloth interior.
Mods coming within the year :
Interior :
PowR Sliding rear window
Expedition Front leather Bucket Seats w/ Expedition Console
Aftermarket CD Player w/ 2 10's under rear bench, upgraded door speakers and amps.
The complete LED conversion that BrowningSCrew and 2000MTZ have posted (Interior and complete Dash conversion)
Reupholstering the interior to black leather (expo buckets front and factory rear bench)
I'm not a fan of the tan interior so, New charcoal gray carpet, I want to use a plastic dye to color all of the tan plastic interior to a charcoal gray color (dash, door panels, a-pillars etc) I would like some guidance on this as I'm a little skeptical of the dye actually doing a great job and sticking correctly.
I will be replacing all glass in the vehicle as it all has water spots that WILL not come off. I've tried rubbing compound, a buffer, all "Water Spot" remover compounds etc and nothing works.
Upgrade A-Pillar on drivers side to incorporate 2x aftermarket gauges (boost )
Exterior :
Repaint in the factory Dark blue metallic color
Aftermarket blackout Headlights / Taillights / Fogs (If I can find them)
Upgraded front bumper / Rear Bumper to incorporate winch (buddy is a welder / fabricator and builds custom Rock Crawler Jeeps)
6 inch suspension lift
35 nitto grapplers on 18 wheels (not sure wheels yet)
Adding some exterior lighting - front bumper
Roof Rack to carry spare full size tire
Engine / Electrical :
Big 3 upgrade (electrical)
I am going to purchase a 5.4l DOHC out a salvaged expo or Lincoln Navigator and plan on supercharing the new motor. I will need advice on this as I'm not fully capable of building a motor.
I'll be running a dual alternator setup with 2 redtop optima batteries to power winch / lighting / sound system
I will have the transmission rebuilt by the same friend that fabricates Rock Crawler Jeeps and upgraded with higher grade parts
I'm not sure if i'll need to upgrade the Transfer case for the new engine / stronger transmission but that's why i'm posting on the F150Forum because one of yall has to know
I want to go with a Ford 9" inch rear and a Dana 44 Straight Axle and 4:10 gears front and back with lockers
I will need to mention all of these mods / upgrades are for show only as I know he will never take it off road / put it in 4 wheel drive etc. I have destroyed quite a few of his vehicles in the day (Totaled : 2007 f250 light duty, 1999 F150 4x4 supercab fleetside, and given this 2001 F150 as much hell as it could handle) and want to give this truck back to him as it's the only one that's lasted long enough for him to hand down to me lol :-/ .
Current problems :
Heater core messed up a few years back so the hoses were cut and clamped (truck has no heat)
Odometer has a cold solder which when i do the led gauges i'll resolder this
small dent under driver's side rear door window
Thanks for taking a read and I'll have current condition photos up tomorrow!

Sorry it took so long to get pics posted but here are some I got this evening. Pulled the truck out the shop for lighting. I do need to make a correction though, in my original post I said the only thing I had done was the third brake light, I've also done door lock actuators also.

Finally had a little time to play and all the parts I've ordered have started coming in. The driver and passenger courtesy light in both doors were a. Missing lenses or b. Gone completely. LMC provided new ones for a few bucks each and got them installed.
It was a little thing but it drove me nuts. Also ordered :
leather for upholsterer
Interior trim dye
All interior LED bulbs
Gauge cluster LED's
Bought a soldering gun for odometer fix
Dark gray carpet for interior replacement
4x pioneer 6x9 door speakers
Hitting the junkyard sometime this weekend for expo buckets and console
Next paycheck I'm ordering the power sliding rear window. Only reason I'm flat out buying one is because this rear window leaks and I can't get the water spots off.

Hey guys, sorry I've let this thread die. I've been called away to Atlanta for 6 months for work, but I am home and just started the heater core repair. I've gotten the core replaced but I've ran into a snag. I wasn't paying attention while tearing everything down and I have a piece that looks like it goes with the hvac/heating. Can anyone tell me where this goes? It's a black frame with a square cut out in it. It has foam all around it. There is a 8x4 door that slides into one side of the frame and the other side is open with a + looking hole. I'm assuming some type of arm goes into there to open or close the door.
