Default Motoring On: my build thread

well I had a build thread some time ago, however it trailed off from some rushed and poorly thought out pic deletion and lack of any real progress. but now it's a fresh spring, with a second truck in the works, and things are already off to a good start, so it's time for a fresh thread and hopefully a lot of good progress in a fair time span. well I'll have updates over the next few days, but of course I'll start off with pics and info on the trucks.

2004 F-150 XL supercab 6.5' styleside, 4.6 auto 2WD, 84K miles - purchased october 18, 2013, in near mint condition with 79K miles for $4,500, a good solid reliable DD work truck. still almost completely stock, a bit of paint work to protect steel rims and suit personal preferences are the biggest plans for now on this one, along with maintaining her as a fairly economical, reliable DD.

1999 F-150 XLT supercab flareside, 4.6 auto 2wd, 101K miles - purchased on impulse for $4,000 in february 2011 with 98K miles - she's a project, but love these trucks and love, love, love her. still fairly stock as well, but have mods in store.

may also feature work on some other motorized toys every now and then as well. have a magnaflow muffler, an exhaust tip, and some lights waiting to be put on the '99 very soon - sending her in for work this weekend. well here's pics of both trucks, look forward to updating the thread soon.

well here are my next 2 mods, a 14'' magnaflow straight through muffler as well as a black 12'' x 3.5'' MBRP exhaust tip. will be sending the 99 in for manifold replacement as well as to install the magnaflow this weekend, and can't wait to hear her when she comes back.

did some preventative maintenance on the 04 today, a new left tie rod end and rear universal joint in driveshaft. neither were far gone, but like to stop truck issues, especially stuff like that, dead in their tracks ASAP. big thanks to an old friend who was good enough to offer his help and use of his property.

truck is near mint, but in doing this job I discovered the rockers are slightly rough at the very bottom, very minor but as mentioned I don't like screwing around with truck care. looks like I got another project before the 99 comes home, if conditions are fit.

well the 04 died mysteriously on the way back from a fishing trip earlier tonight. after finding out 11th gens are notorious for the fpdm going bad, I'm almost convinced that's the problem. gonna have to make the walk to her come near daylight. know of a small 7-day/week garage out in a rural farm town, hoping that can give a solution. if not, she'll have to go to a larger operation on monday, time best not lost. just scared of the bill and hoping she can be back into action by monday morning.....will keep updated

got the fpdm off, truck is still stranded on the road, but it's in very bad shape so it's all but guaranteed that's the issue.....having issues tracking down a replacement so she'll have to be down tomorrow , and hopefully have better results in tracking down a replacement then.

exactly the issue, got a better quality aftermarket replacement for much cheaper than the stealership wanted for a stock one lol.....she's even performing and idling better now, and didn't cost near expectations. big thanks to the same friend who helped with the u-joint etc, he went out of his way to help once again for free.

also got some more in-depth info on painting the 99 from dad as he stopped into the place for something else, I'll be talking to the main paint person there myself to get final info before too long, hopefully get somewhere with actually getting her painted before real long.

well, took a break from forums for a while, but back now. well updates:

-99 has her new manifolds installed, but will be a shot bit yet before returning, as she's getting other work done too. I have decided with the manifold job done that I'm happy with her stock exhaust tone/volume, so no magnaflow after all. I think it's the better decision as the magnaflow probably would be obnoxious after a while, plus the city cops in my school town would probably try to bust me for the loudness. not like she's overly quiet stock.

- hauled out the new tires for the 99, pictured below, 31'' cooper discoverers. studded, but I removed the studs. now to clean them after storage under the shed and paint lettering.

- when 99 gets back from dubbed-out work, going fast as feasible to get body and paint work done and a few mods. I'm sick of half-assing it with her, this is the year I'm getting things together and doing a real good job. can't wait to keep updated, here's my tires and a couple pics of the 04:
