Found this really useful article on making your own black housing for your headlights if you're like me and aren't loving the chrome.

The question I wonder is if anyone thinks it'd be a bad idea is to add tint to inside of clear lens when it is separated from the housing.

There are people on here that have tinted their headlights with either paint or just headlight covers. I've heard from those with tinted ones that it does, in fact, compromise some light output. No surprise there.
Depending on what lighting you have (halogen, HID, projectors, etc) you may be able to do that and have no issues with night time driving. Just don't overdo it.
