Gangster to Gordon Build
Ok so my plan is not to build a full-fledged Robby Gordon trophy truck or anything, but my goal is to transform my originally purchased "gangsta truck", as my friends once called it, into something that somewhat resembles a prerunner style truck. Who knows how far I will go. At this time, there is little justification for a mid or long travel suspension system, as the truck is a part time daily, with some occasional "adventuring". But things change, and as any gear head know, they tend to snow ball quickly.
So what did I have to start with. A surprisingly clean 2004 F150. Inside and out was remarkably clean for the price range I was shopping in. Most had trashed interiors and or abused exteriors. This one was very clean. Almost too clean. Well after thorough inspection is was clear it had been in a wreck. Damage seemed minimal though. No evidence of engine bay encroachment, just a front quarter and a rear quarter and a rechromed wheel.
So here she is. Lots of chrome stuff and 22" Foose shoes.

So shortly after getting the new wheels and tires, I found myself escaping more frequently for some adventuring. As an amateur road racer, I tend to lean more towards high speed trail drives and rally type adventures, than mudding or crawling. My truck is only a 2WD anyway. Anyway, I quickly found my wheels were hitting the tops of the wheel openings under suspension compression. The truck had a 120K miles, so I figured lets just pickup some Biltsteins and raise the front up a couple of inches.
On goes the Biltsteins and here she is after a much needed detailing, including wash, polish and wax (really the first time since owning her):

To get a more aggressive look and to increase the track width for greater rollover stability and cornering stability, I installed a set of Fred Goeske 1.5" wheels spacers.
Here are some wheel shots with the spacers installed:

After detailing the truck last weekend, the weathered bed side caps really stood out as needing some attention. So I picked up some Krylon Fusion Black Satin spray paint and went to town. Originally I was going to remove the bed caps, but after breaking the first click, I decided that masking was safer. It turns out masking is incredibly easy as you can simply tuck news paper under the bed caps and secure the newspaper to the bed sides. Super Easy and finished in around an hour.
