Talking 96grimreaper's build of "Rough Country"

Well, here is my belated build thread. I've been meaning to do this for awhile, it's more of a time line but I'll be adding as more mods come along.

On June 14, 2010 I purchased my 2010 STX SCab from a local dealership with 8K miles. Previous owner traded this one in to purchase a 5.4 SCrew.

Stats on the truck:
4.6 2V
4x4 Manual Transfer Case
Sport and Decor Package.....power options and keyless entry.
Vinyl floors
Tow package
TOTALLY STOCK

Here are a couple pictures of the truck when I brought it home, already hated the chrome tails so tinted them immediately.

Truck was incredible, I was very happy but I have a real problem with modifying every vehicle I own.

First came the leveling kit. Truck needed a series adjustment to it's front end. Had a shop put 20% tint on all the windows except the windshield.

2" Autospring

I always had Mustangs with long tubes, off road mid pipe and exhaust so the truck needed the growl it deserved.

Custom 2.5" Flowmaster 40 series with dual 18x4.5" SS rolled edge tips.

Up next, a new attitude for the front end.

Cheapo bull bar and mounted 3 6" KC lights. Also added 6000k HID's in the heads and fogs.

Switch location

Since the tails were tinted, time to eliminate some on the heads. I used Nite-Shades to tint the heads.

Ultra Wheel Gauntlat 18x9 with +18 offset and 295/70/18 Nitto Trail Grapplers. Pulled off the chrome factory side steps. With the wheels, tires and lack of steps, I didn't feel like the truck was lying in the weeds anymore.

I contacted Patriot Decals and had them custom make "Thin Blue Line" overlays for the blue ovals. *These were later removed*

I was very happy with the ride, look and feel of the lift and 34's, however I wanted more.

6" Rough Country kit was installed by a friend and I in the driveway. Tails were re-done, tinted 3rd brake light. At some point and overlays were removed and the ovals were nite-shaded.

This turned the truck into a real neck breaker on the roads and never failed to
put a huge smile on my face everytime I got behind the wheel. THIS was what I wanted all along.

KC's were replaced with two Hella 700's with 6000K HID's.

5000k LED's added to the cargo, reverse and tag lights. Also "Rough Country" decal was added, this is where the name originated.

Now it was time to upgrade the interior.

Installed the Pioneer 3200DVD, Alpine 6x8's, Kicker 500 mono amp, Image Dynamics 10" sub in an Atrend box.

Removed center jumpseat and installed a factory center console-One of the best mods I've done.

Next up I finally baked open the headlights and painted the bezel and turn signal area and nite-shaded the amber lens, also I pulled the bull bar and mounted the Hellas behind the grill.

The truck felt too "skinny" and needed some width. I sold the 18's to a friend and went with a set of Fuel Hostage 20x10 -12 offset wrapped in some 35x12.50 Nitto Trail Grapplers. I Finally had the look and stance I was after. Misc mods done around the same time...Pulled the emblems and painted black, AVS in-channel vent visors and led tail gate bar. Tail gate bar was wired for just brakes and reverse lights.

Hated the dark abyss under the truck at night. Picked up a string of white led's and mounted them under the truck to act as puddle lights. *Wish I had a better pic*

I finally decided to pull the HID's out of my headlights, some time back the fogs died and were replaced with silverstars.

A big change in the looks department. 1.75" pocket style flares. I left them black as it fit the theme of the truck. Gave the truck that rugged, off road appearence it needed. Around the same time I purchased a set of Rigid Industries duallys in the spot pattern. These replaced the Hellas behind the grill. The low profile black toolbox was picked up at TSC. I'm not sure how I got by without one for so long.

Picked up a second set of dually lights and put them in the bumper gap.

That's it for now, and the truck is no where near done.
