Yeah I rarely drive the mustang just hit 1000 miles and bought it back in October. I love it, just don't drive it in bad weather/rain and driving to work in through town is too much stop and go. So truck is my daily.

I am right there with you. I bought my 16 in September and I am at 1,500 miles. I stopped building the S550 because I am waiting for the new Mach 1's to come out, can't wait.

I started with upgrading the XLT components to Lariat Sport ones.

This included:

1) Magentic tri-bar Grille
2) Magnetic bumper with bumper cap options.
3) Front Bumper Caps painted by Ford
4) Rear Bumper caps painted by Ford.

The only visual difference at this point between a base XLT and a Lariat Sport are the fender flares (besides the wheels of course) which I opted against because I like the negative offset poke which is only diminished by flares. I also like the look of clean fenders and prefer to not drill holes. If you wanted to do this and add the fender fares they are actually the easiest component to find for roughly $100-$120.

Here are some before and afters:

The first true cons that I found with the 2WD were lift options and front stance. However, these problems created interesting opportunities. I have never been a fan of Rough Country but never had a valid reason. With my options limited and RC so inexpensive I figured I would give it a shot since the entire idea here was trying new things. The kit is built incredibly, quality is at the least equal to kits 2-3x's the cost. The other thing which is obvious is the front end sits a little lower which will be corrected in the near future with some extra inches in the front.

That brings me to one of the pros for 2wd, no CV angles to worry about and no 4wd components to break. I will be adding PRO COMP coilovers with a level to get me about 8" of lift along with a 1.5" AAL in the rear that will give me the level stance. The Rough Country kit is a true 5.75" drop so 8" will be the equivalent of adding a 2.25" level which is right in acceptable range.

As far as trimming for these wheels to work I trimmed some inner plastic and the crash bars in front. Nothing major here but you need to trim, move or remove the crash bars at the same time as the lift. You will chop up the front tires if you don't.

Here is where we sit now with just the Rough Country lift:

1) Rough Country 6" Lift
2) 20x10 -24 Fuel Couplers
3) 35x12.5 Nitto Trail Grapplers

Looks great! Also I completely agree with you on having a locker on a 2wd is better than an open diff 4wd. One of my old tjs had a Detroit in the rear and an ox up front and I rarely even used 4wd unless I was crawling.
