Default 2.5itim's 96 build

I guess I'll go ahead and start a build thread on my truck, I have always wanted a 92-96 f150 single cab, 2wd, short bed. About a year ago I broke the timing belt on my car and my coworker offered to sell me his truck, he bought it new in 96 and took decent care of it but it definitely needed some work and I've got a lot to do.

So the plan is to just make a bad *** street truck, so far I have got kyb shocks all around, 15x8 wagon wheels up front with 275-60r15 and 15x10 cragar v-5's in the rear with 275-60r15. I will be buying a set of 15x7 cragars for the front at some point to replace the wagon wheels.

Swapped in a set of fox body lx seats, expedition center console and am in the process of blacking out my interior, more on this later.

I made my own front grill and bought a pair of black headlight bezels to replace all the chrome pieces.

Msd cap/rotor, msd coil, will be ordering my plug wires and spark plugs soon and then will be bumping up the timing a bit.

I am going to be doing a lot of body work and repainting the truck, I've got a rust spot over each rear wheel so I need to weld in some new arches. For now I am just getting rid of the red stripe that goes around the bottom of the body and painting it gloss black, after I get the rust fixed I will repaint the white and it will be bmw alpine white. This is my first time doing paint and body so hopefully I can make it look decent!

I have a set of long tube headers that I need to get put on and then the exhaust will be true dual with both pipes exiting right in front of the passenger rear wheel (like the 2nd gen lightning).

I have a pair of bell tech 2" lowering rear shackles that I will be putting on soon and am also buying my front 2" drop springs and shocks this weekend.

My buddy gave me a 86 302ho that he had planned on putting in his bronco but never got around to it, the plan is to build that engine up and swap out my old one. Hopefully it will be getting a 331 stroker kit, e303 cam (I have it already), gt40 heads or maybe aluminum if money allows, and I've been mulling over fabing up a m112 s/c to go with it but we will see.

Anyway hope you enjoy the build, all I have right now is some crappy cell phone pics but I will post them up shortly.

I got the other side done today but for some reason I can't get a good pic because of the lighting. You can see the red on the back of the bed, it was such an ugly color and just had to go!! I can't paint that part yet because the rear bumper bolts are rusted and I can get them undone, I'm probably going to cut it off which is fine with me cuz I've got a black 78 bronco rear bumper to go on it.

Yesterday was a pretty productive day! I got the rear bumper off the truck, I finished spraying the black, I'm really liking the way it turned out. I started to take the rear suspension apart only to find my shackle/leaf spring bolt is seized on both sides so instead of lowering it by shackles I will now be doing an axle flip, and payed for my front 2" drop it should be getting shipped to me on Monday.

I also got the mirrors pulled and sanded and ready for paint, will be spraying those today and then running to the gf's grandpas house to search thru his bronco parts for my new rear bumper.

I always liked that body, I miss my '96. Not much changed under the skin from '80 to '96, a 460 will drop right in with full size headers and A/C! There is no replacement for displacement. LMC Truck has a lot of good parts for that truck.

I like this body style a whole lot also, honestly it's my favorite other than the 69 and 72 f100's I use to have.

Hmm a 460 drop right in huh? I may have to think on that a bit, I do love a good ole big block and the girlfriends grandpa has a whole bunch of them out on his land. I just don't know if I want to stick with the 302/331 idea or go 460, 302's are so easy and cheap to build, and I can keep my fuel injection and not have to do any wiring and also weighs a whole lot less.
I've got some thinking to do.

Spent a little time on the mirrors today, I scuffed the chrome with 220 grit and then primed, base coated and clear coated them. I'm going to let them sit for a couple days before I finish sand and buff them, as for the plastic parts of the mirrors I used the mothers "back to black" and I'm not very happ with it. It made the plastic all blotchy and weird looking so at some point I am going to take them back off, disassemble them and just paint the entire thing the black that I am using.

My girlfriends grandpa is probably one of the coolest dudes to ever walk this earth, he's got probably close to 100 vehicles on his land all ranging from 30's-late 70's fords. I was talking with him last week and told him I was needing to find a 70-79 bronco rear bumper and he just so happens to have about 10 of them so he told me to come out and take my pick.

I chose the only one he had that wasn't chromed, as you can see in the first 3 pics it was pretty beat up but I'm a metal worker as my day job so I wasn't to worried, after about an hour with a propane torch and 3lb sledge I got it all straightened out. Then I started sanding all the old paint and rust off, I'll take it to work with me tomorrow and blast the inside to get the rust off of there before painting.

I'll post some pics up after I get it painted and figure out how I'm going to mount it on here.

Today I finally got the rest of the old rusted bolts cut off, finish sanded the metal and got it primed. I probably should have used body filler in a few places just to get it all smoothed out but it's a bumper so it's gonna get beat up anyways. Last week I used my last quart of the ebony gloss black I've been spraying with so I will go pick more up tomorrow and get some color sprayed when I get home from work.

I'm also going to take all the mounts up to work and media blast them, I'm still not sure how I'm going to mount this thing yet so I may not even be able to use them. If I have to I will make all new mounts out of material I have laying around at work.
