Default Sonnys DIY bed ryder/subaru brat seats

Move this wherever admins, I just wanted it accessible here for 4x91 and some others who are interested.

Okay, in high school (2009 grad), a friend of mine had the expensive bed ryder style set up in his truck I think he paid like a grand. It was super cool to be able to haul 2 other people in the bed of a truck. I owned a GMC jimmy so I never worried about seating but since I recently traded the jimmy for this 91 f150, I've had the desire to buld my own bed ryder system just on a much cheaper level so heres where we will start:

Step 1: I researched laws in Georgia on riding in the bed of a truck, totally legal as long as you are over 18, no seat belt required.

step 2: My frist necessity was seats, I looked through junkyards and almost bought a set of poly seats from summit but then one day on craigslist I came across a set of GMC Denali 3rd row seats for free! I went and picked them up immediately and they were perfect. Leather, Grey, and seat belts built into the seat!

Step 3: I needed to get some steel to build my frame out of so I was driving down the road and some idiot had drifted down the road and taken out two road signs. The cleanup guys asked me if I wanted the signs and posts which were 2" square tubing so I gladly accepted the offer and took them home to get ready to cut.

Step 4: Measure, Measure, Measure, then draw plans. I am a draftsman for TVA so I drew up my plans on autocad to design my frams and how the seats would sit and mount. my frame is 48" wide and 32" long.

Step 5: Decide on how to mount the seats and add to design. I am using all thread scrap I had in the shop for my seats to clip into.

Steps 6 (welding), 7(Test Fitting), 8 (frame mounting), 9 (powdercoating), and 10 (final fitment) to come!

North Carolina — In North Carolina, passengers over 16-years-old may ride within a truck bed. However, children younger than 16 may also ride in a truck bed if an adult is also riding there; the child is restrained by a seat belt; or the truck is being operated in a parade, farm work, or an emergency.

Alright, so last night I got around to finishing tacking it up, test fitting it all and then welding it together and finalizing the bracket. All that is left now is bed mounting, test fitting, painting and final fitment.

Steps 6 (welding), 7(Test Fitting), 8 (frame mounting), 9 (powdercoating), and 10 (final fitment) to come!

so here is when I was getting all my mounts laid out. I wanted to keep the functionality of the seats with the ability to remove them without removing the bracket so I had to use rod to retain the factory mounts. I had 1/2" all thread in the shop so I just used that.

Step 5 (continued):

So then I tacked it all up and checked to make sure it all fit correctly and worked correctly as it did so here we are

Step 6 (welding): finalized all my weld joints and its stable.+

Now to just get the bed cleared out and my mounting points determined then I can mount it, test fit it, paint it, and final mount it.
