For sure. I'm used to that! Haha. I just think you will be WAY happier with a brand new engine with 0 miles, and and brand new, super tight trans. I was just on the ford racin website and I thought the 347 NA was a good choice, although expensive. I think that's the same engine you mentioned. However, keep in mind it doesn't make peak horsepower until 7000 RPM, which is screaming haha. But I think you'll like it. Now pick a trans that handles 800hp!

Can any one tell me will this engine work with my truck, and my current transmission?

Thank you very much azmidget91

Is there a way to know what engines will and will not fit? Or what transmissions will fit what engine? That way I don't have to ask every time I see an engine I like. I tried googling it but never seem to find the answer I am looking for.

Being that you have a modular 5.4, you are stuck with that or a 4.6 if you plan on keeping the transmission. Now you could go to the ford small block engine configuration like the engines you have posted (based off a 302) and get an aod from a pre 97 truck and use a separate controller for it, or just get a non computer controlled transmission. Do you want it carburated or fuel injection? Fuel injection you will need something like a Megasquirt ECU. There is a lot involved in swapping an engine into a modern truck.

Best option is build your 5.4 and put a supercharger on it.

Forgot, also the new 5.0 will bolt up to your trans, but then you would need a separate controller for each.

Thank you very much for all your input. I will look into just rebuilding my engine and trans.

Here is what I would do
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Racing-5-0L-412HP-32-Valve-DOHC-Sealed-Crate-Engine-M-6007-M50S-/331168200321?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d1b29b681&vxp=mtr
Then for your transmission.

Then pay someone a bunch of money to make everything else in the truck work. and forget about emissions.
