Default Never pay for goods as a "gift" or "friends & family" in PayPal

Be careful of those that ask you to pay for items as a "gift" in PayPal. If you do, you forfeit filing for a disput if your goods do not arrive, or are damaged due to poor packing by seller. While it avoids a percentage charge, it offers no protection with PayPal.

PayPal treats a "gift" payment just as it sounds; a gift. You have no buyer protection when payment is made this way, as a "gift" payment is not used to buy goods.

Be Careful!!!

And the percentage you save is only 2.9%, not worth it. Unless I have done business with somebody in the past multiple times and they've proved trustworthy, I NEVER send as Gift, always Goods. And I move a LOT of money through Paypal.

I was not asked to pay using "gift" but djfllmn cut the price of my item down so much that I wanted to save him a buck or two. They did charge me a fee to send him money (which I didn't mind).
Your point about relinquishing the right to file a dispute is the most important one. But I wanted to let you know that it looks like one way or another, PayPal is going to get their fee.

Nope, there is a "gift" box to check instead of "goods or services".
