Changing shocks 94' F150
I did the rear shocks in my 94' F150 4x4, I only did the rear so far because they did have a nother front shock at Auto Zone.
You need for tools-
18mm Socket/Wrench
WD-40
Snips
Hammer(Rubber Dead blow, but a framer works too
)
Torque wrench
Jack
Do not cut the wire on the shock yet!!!! Its there to keep it compressed until you put it in!!!
Don't use an impact gun! Only do one side at a time, incase the jack slips on something happens you can lower the truck.
1. Put the parking brake on and jack of the rear of the truck, I did it at the bumper. Jack it enough to were the tires are not off the ground but most of the pressure is off the shocks.
2. Loosen the lower shock bolt and remove it, the shock will stretch out more after you remove it. Then loosen the nut at the top and slide the shock off.
3. Take you new shock and slide the top on first and put the nut back on finger tite.
4. Then line the bottom of the shock up with the lower mount, have the bolt in one hand and snips in the other. Then cut the wire, drop the snips and grab the shock and guide it in place and put the bolt in quickly!
If you don't get the bolt in and the shocks extends all the way, I dont know what to do except go back and get a fresh shock saying something was wrong with it
5. Put the nut on the bolt and tighten it up, then tourque the lower first to 65 ft/lbs (This is what my service manual said, you may what to check and see what yours says), the go to the upper and tourque to 55 ft/lbs. (This is for the F150 only, the 250's and up I think are like 200+Ft/lbs)
6. Repeat on the other side and lower the truck and your done!
I will add how to do the fronts once I get my front shocks in. I did'nt take any pictures because I did'nt think of this till I was done doing it. If you guys have any question ask!

I will tell you what to do if you don't get that lower bolt in quick enough, because when I installed mine the shock did expand too quick for me to secure it. I took a floor jack and pushed the shock back up and managed, with a little messin' to get the bolt in.

Thanks for the write-up, did you ever get around to the front's yet?
If anyone else has, maybe they can help answer my question.
One of my front lower shock mount bushings is dead, there is a lot of play between the bushing and the collar and its making a noise when compressed.

I believe that's all I need, but when taking the front shock off, will I have this problem of it expanding out? The shock is in good condition so I will be just putting it back in and not using a new one.

Yea I did the fronts, what brand shocks are they? You should be able to jack the truck up and then put the shock back in by compressing it your self. How many miles are on the shocks? Because if the bushings are blown out maybe you should get new shocks.

I'm not sure of the brand, they are dark blue
I just bought the truck about 3 weeks ago and the previous owner told me that he had recently replaced the shocks. I believed him because they look to be fairly new, but then again they could be a crap brand.
Do shocks come with the bushings pressed in?

Press on the bumper of the truck to get the truck rocking, does the truck seem springy? Does it take a good amount of effort to shake the truck? And I think that the bushing are pressed in.

I just ran across your question, because I was surfing looking for the same answer! I have a 1997 Ford Mustang, and for the past 3 weeks it has been squeaking so loud that I'm embraced to drive it. It is LOUD! sounds like it's coming from around the drivers side front wheel. I took it to a shop for an oil change, and they said that they greased the front end. Either they lied, or I got bigger problems. Every time I turn the wheel, every time the car is rolling, it is squeaking. I hope some one can answer.
