Default How to Remove Factory Radio for InDash Navigation on 2004 & Up F150's

I just Tackled the task of replacing the Factory Radio with an Indash 7inch 2din Navigation System and decided to share....Pictures are Included

...First thing: This is a very simple procedure and you should not be afraid to tackle it no matter your skill level...Takes maybe 30 mins total after getting everything you need and the Gap inside the Dash is pretty huge so don't worry about small spaces or New system with lot's of Wires not fitting correctly....

Before You Start....Make Sure you have the correct Face Plate mounting bracket for your radio ( this will leave gaps in your dash area if not ) I logged onto http://www.scosche.com/ and chose my truck and Etc for the part # and just googled for lowest price...CrutchField is a good place too...

I chose a After Market Brand because I wanted all the bells and whistles -vs- Just a Quality Name so I couldn't go with CrutchField....Buy according to your wants and needs.....

How To :

First you will need a flat head Screw Driver to pri the front dash mount off as pictured. I started at the bottom right and then did the left. Take both hands and just pull up slowly and you can feel the snaps pull out. No really way of hurting anything in this process....You will have to remove the wire for your Side Air Bag by pushing in the clip and it should pull right out...

Now You will find 4 screws holding the radio in place, Just use a 7mm socket to remove and hold the radio from bottom when your on the last 1 or 2 Screws...The radio then will come down and give you plenty of room to unplug the radio wires....Some might have 2 but mine only had 1 and the antenna plug...Depends on if you have the factory Amp & Sub

Now that the radio is out; You will be ready to plug in your new harness. At This point you have to decide if your going to spend the extra money to buy an adapter harness that fits your truck or you want to hard wire it....You can get the Harness again from here http://www.scosche.com/ or CrutchField....

This is very simple, I took a high lighter and used it for the wires I was going to use and went over them on the paper ....The Reason I chose to do it this way is because my Nav came with Steering wheel controls which my Truck doesn't have ( Until Now ) I hard wired mine in thru the On / Off for cruise control (on the steering wheel )for my volume controls...not covered in this

This is the wire diagram - Just Copy and Paste and Print -

12volts lt. green/purple (20A) + ignition harness
Starter red/lt. blue + ignition harness
Ignition dk. blue/lt. green + ignition harness
Accessory black/lt. green + ignition harness
Keysense black/pink + ignition harness
Power Lock pink/yellow - DKP or BCM, green plug, pin 9
Notes: The BCM (Body Control Module) is on the driver side rear cabin wall.
Power Unlock pink/lt. green - DKP or BCM, green plug, pin 1
Notes: The BCM (Body Control Module) is on the driver side rear cabin wall.
Parking Lights+ brown + switch or BCM, blue plug, pin 6
Notes: The BCM (Body Control Module) is on the driver side rear cabin wall.
Door Trigger black/yel (L), black/pink (R) - DKP, gray plug, pins 22, 23
Notes: The wiring above is for vehicles without keyless entry. Vehicles with keyless entry, the door trigger wires are found at the BCM, green plug. The LF door trigger is black/yellow in pin 4. The RF door trigger is black/pink in pin 5. The LR door trigger is black/lt. blue in pin 12. The RR door trigger is black/white in pin 13. Use all wires and diode isolate each.
Tachometer NOT red/lt. green or red ac any ignition coil or fuel injector
Brake Wire lt. green + brake pedal switch
Parking Brake lt. green/red - parking brake switch
Horn Trigger dk. blue - switch or BCM, blue plug, pin 12
Notes: The BCM (Body Control Module) is on the driver side rear cabin wall.
Immobilizer Bypass Module: Required: Yes Type: SecuriLock

After Getting this step complete, You now will be ready to mount your new Nav system onto the Bracket you purchased. Pretty simple and only takes a few minutes. At this point you can choose on some units just how far you want the Nav to stick out of the dash or just flush it up to the console. I pulled my out a little to keep the Sun from being directly on it...You can all so by a Non Glare sheet that will do the same thing..On your face bracket you might need to trim some areas with a razor or dremel tool depends on what bracket you bought...

Now you will be ready to just place the entire unit back into the truck...

You will need to find a spot to run your Antenna for the Nav and TV if yours has one...I had already planned my out and I chose not to go outside the truck with them, I have them on my dash and have NO issues with signals. ( can't promise you won't )

Now you can plug everything back in and begin to tighten the four screws you took out to hold the radio up; Replace plug for Air Bag and then from bottom start to push in dash cover back up slowly until each clip snaps back into place.....

Your Job is now over, Your Radio should go off when you open the door as before and you should have all the same features that your truck was equipped with....

Richard02 - I noticed this too. my '04 XLT has the cup holders and my dads work tuck is an 06 FX4 and has them. And I see you (Richard) have a 05 FX4 and ZaBree has a 05 XLT. Im guessing that starting in 05 the cupholders were deleted from the XLT package and left on the FX4 Package only. I wish i didnt have them becuase all they do is rattle around. making it sound like the damn dash is coming appart. and i already have 2 cupholders in the center consol anyways. Or it could be part of the smokers package because my cupholders that are under the head unit have an ashtray in the middle of them.

Now ZaBree - What brand HU is that and what did it cost ?
