That is exactly why I didn't do the roof mount. I was also afraid with the entire base not making contact it could leak or make wind noise also. Mag mounts are great always liked them just being where I'm at doing what I do they don't work for me because I knock them off all the time. I've even considered using a Wilson trucker on my tool box so my antenna isn't so high but it is hard to beat a 102 inch whip.

Nice job. A suggestion, its much better to connect the ground side of your 12 v line to the chassis ground. ford says taking radio power feeds to the ground side of the battery can impact some of the electronic functions of the truck. I have the control head for my ham radio mounted to a cup holder mount with the radio body inder the passenger seat. That way I can lay it under a seat to make it less tempting to thieves when I am away from the truck in a public place. I routed all of my 12 volt and three runs of coax through a grommet under the carpet on the passenger side of the truck. I mounted my screwdriver hf antenna inside the bed next to the tailgate but I don't have a tonneau cover to work around. I also have a vhf/uhf antenna mounted on the toolbox in the bed and another vhf antenna mounted on the other side of the tool box for mt APRS setup. The only holes I had to drill in the truck are for the mount for my screwdriver. Nice job on your install.

Good to know, I grounded mine on the fender/shock tower area where I also grounded my light bar. There is actually 2 factory grounds right beside the battery that I used.

I've always taken the ground side of my 12 volt feeds to the battery but Ford's owner manual says not to do that so I put the grounded on the chassis this time. Twisting the 12 volt line is a good idea. So much of our current vehicle electronics is computer driven just like any radios we put in them. Twisting the 12 volt leads helps keep some of those extraneous data bits out of the radio. Also putting ferrite beads on those leads and the coax can help isolate those compompnents from stray RF.

Fuse the CB Circuit
Nice article!
Shouldn't there be a fuse there at the battery to protect the wires in case of a short? I used the cigarette lighter circuit for my CB. I THINK that circuit is fused. Wish I could get a hold of an accessories electrical diagram for my 1995 F-150. The Hanes manual only has engine electrical diagrams.
