97-03 odometer fix

Another OD fixed. Thanks to the OP for posting this. Maybe make this thread a sticky as there are allot of years with this issue?
I found a quick youtube video showing how to remove the cluster.
The headlight switch varies depending on the year. My 2000 just had the spring clips and popped out.
Be careful not to lose the little gray spacer on the back of the trip OD reset shaft when you start taking the actual cluster apart. I just pulled it out along with the long black shaft and set them aside.
I had 3 pins that simply did not have enough solder, no cracking. Be sure to check all of them with the magnifier. I checked the other pin sets on the board and they seemed fine. Here is link from another forum showing magnified pins. Many posters just re-heated with limited success, I would add solder unless you want to do this twice.

It's really not that hard of a job. I used the 7mm flex socket (spark plug coil tool) on a long 1/4 drive extension with a electric drill. Also sanded my soldering iron to a fine point. Just heat the pin up on one side and touch it with solder from the other side making sure it flows before pulling the iron off the pin.
Good wrenching!

I may have to check that then. I recently pulled mine out a week ago to fix. Pull solder on it (I already knew which one, third truck I've done it on), but I'm still getting the occasional outage. Looks like I get to pull it out again. Yaaay... as if time number 10 isn't enough.

Just done this to mine, Many thanks to the OP for the write up, it made it really easy to do
Start to finish was pretty much bang on an hour
Odo & trip have been intermittent since I got the truck last month, came straight on when I put it back together, fingers crossed it's back to normal now

This thread is awesome. Just picked up a 2001 Supercrew with, surprise, a wonky odometer. Found this thread and about an hour later I had a perfectly working odometer.
Wish I would've taken pictures, but the solder joint mentioned in this thread had wasted away to almost nothing so I ended up using some 97% silver solder and re-soldered the joint.
