Can't say thanks enough! If you're ever in the Pittsburgh area on a Friday Night, drop me a line, Lernerville Speedway VIP treatment on me!!
I might have to take a roadtrip this summer.

it's another highly debatable sunject between mechanics. Essentially don't over oil your filter and you will be fine. and be sure to clean your MAF again about 100 miles after you re oil your air filter, just to be safe

I know it might be early, but has anyone taken off the TB on the new 5.0 to see how dirty it gets?

I'm not aware of anyone who has done so. Same concept though. Most tbs don't need it until at least 60k miles

A couple years ago, mine wouldn't start and threw a couple codes:
P2104 - "Forced Idle"
P2112 - "Throttle stuck close"

I took the throttle apart and cleaned it up. It has been fine since.

My '07 4.6L has a plastic spacer with seals behind the TB. Ford recommends replacing it after it has been removed but I'm not sure that is necessary.

Good write up

Default New F-150 guy here

Just got a '06 XLT. Has a rough idle. would cleaning the throttle body eliminate that? Also, what could also potentially be the other issues? Thanks!

rough idle could be partly due to a dirty tb
clean the MAF for sure.
if it still doesn't clear up then how rough are we talking?
shaking the truck rough or too low of an idle rough?
if it's the first I would look at getting spark plugs changed.
Heck if it hasn't been done yet I would change them on that truck ASAP.
Due yourself a favor and do the first two steps and go from there.

Cool. The vibration is light. It would vibrate the seat belt to shake but not hard enough to rattle spare change in the cup holder. Hope that's good example. I just know that it is not suppose to do that. I didn't think about changing the spark plugs. If the TB doesn't fix that I'll look at the spark plugs. Thanks!

I have a 96 with a 300. My idle was around 620. The only thing in the ignition system left for me to replace was the ignition control module, so I went for it. Idles right about 700 now.

the problem with the 04-08s especially the 04+05s with the 5.4 (the tb was all one piece including the IAC and TPS about $200+) was that they came really close to idling to a stop if you cranked the wheel to hard (from my experience and many others) because the power steering pump took too much power.
750 was about the range that kept it safe but it was a little overboard to have to buy a programmer to fix this. Personally I think this is why Ford went with the electric steering on the 2011s

Is there a gasket between the throttle body and intake manifold?
