The point is to free up wasted horse power robbed from the clutch on the mechanical fan and also tends to run cooler in stop and go driving or 4 wheeling when you don't have high RPMs to make you mechanical fan work efficiently. The answer to your second questions depends. You could wire them to run continuous, but typically you would use a controller which is activated by a thermostat. In this case the OP added a manual disconnect switch as well.

By the way OP this is a very clean install, great job. I plan on using some of your ideas later this month when I do mine.

I wanna do that to my truck. I saw it on a new section on the show Xtreme 4x4 where theyre doing mods for better fuel economy and power on lifted daily driver rigs. how much did this set you back money wise?

yeah i saw that too! except its gonna take like a year to do it all..i wanna know what their gonna do NOW lol

how do we find out what all they are gonna do?

Great write up! Sounds like this mod will cost you around the $200 USD range (Depending on which controller & fan setup you go with).

As others have already mentioned, replacing the clutch fan with the electric fans should free up some power, as well as give you a cleaner look, and a more efficient cooling system (As long as you wire everything up correctly).

Seems like some people keep the fan shroud, and others toss it. Any comments?

OK I am pretty handy when it comes to working on the truck. I am a helicopter mechanice so it is not a big leap for me. I do pretty much everything by myself or with a friend. Anyways I do feel cautious about the whole controller and wire running thing-a-ma-bober stuff. How hard is this for someone who has absolutely ZERO background in electrical. I can run some wires and hook up a switch I did that for my PIAAs wanted the switch to mount flush so drilled a hole right by the cigarette lighter and mounted a switch, looks sharp. I can do that so how hard would this be for me? Great Write up very nice work with the brackets.

I've been contemplating this, as well as underdrive pulleys, CAI, MAF, and exhaust from the headers back out to the rear of the truck...I'd hope to pick up 15-20 HP, but mainly a couple of MPGs.
