Just changed mine today for the first time since I had my truck. Whoever changed it before, broke part of the fitting so it was just zip tied on. Cut it and slid it off. The front tricky one already had a little metal tool connected to it so I just had to squeeze it and it pushed the spring back for me. It was nice. I'll try to get a picture of the line so you guys can try and find one similar. Tool about 10min total

The blue one should fit....If it was one of those packs you get from Advance or Autozone then the blue one should work. That is what I got when I did mine and it was a bit of a hassle to take off but it worked in the end.

I have not done it on my 05 yet, but sounds exactly like doing it on my 90. Thanks!

OK, so if you break off the clip on the rear side - you can get new ones from a dealership...how do you get the new clips back in? AND can I drive the thing to the dealership with a broken rear clip???

Great write-up! I really appreciate it! I just replaced mine this morning with a Fram fuel filter and I noticed once I got the new filter installed and trying to reconnect the metal clip on the front side of the fuel filter, there was a little weld or flange on the new filter (on the side where it connects to the filter) that is preventing me from re-attaching the metal clip or even use the scissor removal tool for that matter. I started the truck without any leaks. how important is that metal clip? with the design of the new filter there is simply not enough room to re-attach it or use the scissor tool to remove the new filter and put the metal clip on before snapping the fuel line onto the filter. When I replace next time I will have to use the plastic removal tool I'm guessing because it might be shorter and will get in to pop the filter off. Hope this makes sense.

First post. I have an 07 XLT Scab, bought from a dealership 90k miles, 13k. I bought the cheap plastic "tools" and they were absolute garbage, I spent an hour trying to get them to pop the fuel filter off, used pliers to force it with no luck. Finally got fed up and went to AZ and got the metal one. Within 30 seconds I had it unclipped and gas on my face. I felt like I just won the World Series and it was champagne after dealing with it for an hour. So my tip would be to buy the metal tool, it slid right in and worked like a charm. Now I wish I hadn't beaten the plastic ones up so bad and could return them. My filter was BLACK, not sure if a new one looks brown or what, but it was gross. I am hoping this might help with some acceleration problems, certainly wont be any worse.

Buy the metal tool, 5/16" is what size I used, and it worked great. Plastic ones cost me an hour of anger, and $8...

Yes but the metal tool, got mine at autozone for a few bucks. Total time spent replacing this part was less than 15 mins. While your under there check your fpdm. After i replaced both truck drove like new and mileage went up a little too.
