Just changed the oil in my truck for the first time on my own, thanks for the insight on how to go about doing it. ive always wanted to learn but ive always had low cars and nothing to lift the front end up to get under there. luckily my truck is lifted so i didnt need anything. I use mobil1 on my cars so thats what ive been using for it since i got the truck.

Default Dealer Coupons

My dealer sends me coupons for service, not expensive at all. They came in handy when I took my old F250 diesel in for oil changes. 16 quarts of oil ain't cheap

I am sure I will get coupons for my new F150

'99 F150 Lariat, 98K miles. How do you get to the oil filter? I've been underneath with no luck reaching the filter. My arms are not long enough to go from top. I've heard some folks remove the front right tire for easier access. Anybody try this with success?

We don't have to reset the computer do we?? I only ask because before I started changing my oil in my Malibu the dealership said that you had to reset the computer so it would register that the oil had been changed.

It sounded like a buttload of crap to me.

most gm vehicles oil lights are reset by turning the key to on without starting it and immediately pressing the gas pedal to the floor and up all the way 3x times within a couple seconds.

I have noticed, though, that no one puts new oil into the new filter before putting it back on the engine...is this not a recommended practice? I used to do this with my first two vehicles. I learned it from a friend. And you used OLD oil to lightly coat the gasket? I used new oil? Care to share what I am missing?
+1
I pour some oil into the new filter every time I change it.It doesnt matter if its sideways. It can easily hold 1/3 horizontally without any spills. It prevents dry starts.and Hayns book says the same thing. One of the reasons I do it myself

Sanding paper works great on the filter that is stuck.Just wrap it around the filter and unscrew it by hand.

Alright time I ask this.
Royal purple?
Amsoil?
Mobile one??
I am going pure synthetic on all fluids but I want advice before I go further. I have done a bunch of research and everyone points towards themselves. A couple independs tests favor amsoil.

I always fill the filter up as much as I can and lower it down from the top but only fill it till the filter itself no longer absorbs the oil so basically about 1/8 to 1/3 of a quart. When Im done adding all the oil and filter is on of course I hold the gas pedal to the floor and turn the key, it wont start with the pedal all the way down but the oil gets moving first at a lower speed, then take foot off pedal and start it up. Works for me.
