Great write up man.... Another thing if you dont have a spark plug socket.. Its hard to get the plug out... I usually end up with all spark plug sockets that don't have the rubber grommet... You can take the spark plug wire and put it on the spark plug and then pull it out like that... It doesn't seem like rocket science after you do it... But it took me about 30 mins one time to come up with a plan to get the plug out after i got it loose..

Great job. I just did the job and would like to meet the guy that designed the system so that I can shake his hand, real hard. I have a 97 5.4l with the COPs, but above it says that Ford did not start this system until later and I should have wires. What's up with that?

I did this about 4 months ago. stupid design putting the fuel rail over the the coils. i disconnected the fuel lines going to the rail on the right. also it was on a 99 expy i seem to have a lot more junk in the way which made it more of a pain. I would also suggest that you all, as my auto teacher put it "Not dry hump your injectors" by putting a very very small amount of grease around the rubber o ring on each injector.

Otto just tackled my plugs yesterday, went with motorcraft plugs and global cops like you said, I couldn't be happier the truck runs so much smoother. Your right up made it so straight forward, I took my time and did it in about 4 and a half hours, I couldn't have done it without this! Thank you again!!!

i feel much better about changing the plugs myself. I will purchase a few new tools and take my time to follow your tutorial. One question.... you talk about using motorcraft plugs , the plugs i purchased are autolite xp extreme iridium enhanced. Are these plugs as good, better, poorer than the motorcraft ones and also most of the research i have been reading all say to apply never-seez on the new plugs. I would appreciate your input on these concerns.

I have a '99 f-150 XLT 5.4 triton.I am hoping this is as easy as you make it sound.I am a woman and know very little about cars, but after waiting for 2 years for some male to change the plug on my truck I am going to attempt it myself. My problem with following these directions are that, when you are naming the parts to be removed, I don't know what they are. Tomorrow during the day I will be taking my laptop out and have this page by my side to assist me in this. Wish me luck! Although its been 2 years, the truck hasn't been driven the majority of that time, and been parked and covered, so although I know that it would be best to change all the plugs at this time, I really just need to change this one because it is misfiring. And then I can at least use this truck.

Excellent tutorial. Was very helpful for me. I could remove the cops and the plugs and reinstall the new ones without remove the fuel rails.

Awesome write-up! I am so excited to try this on my own now! I was literally afraid until about 2 minutes ago. I have to take apart my truck this weekend anyway to check a couple of intake issues.
