Get a friend to come over. If the differential is in the vehicle, jack up the rear and place the vehicle in neutral. While you (or yoru friend) is under the vehicle, have the other mark mark the tire. The person under the vehicle will spin and count the revolutions of the pinion until the tire has made one complete turn. If the axle turns approximately three and three quarter, you have 3.73s.

This method will also tell you if you have an open differential.

nice, just left out the 9.75", 10.25" (full float/HD, & semi float/LD) & that the 8.8 was what came in alot of the V6/4.6 97-03 f150's

It was just a building list. I also think all v6 rangers got 8.8s after 1990

After 03 idk enough to contribute so I'll leave that for someone that does lol & you are correct about the v6 rangers for the most part. My 93 3.0 ranger had the 7.5" so I think it was the 4.0's that got the 8.8 in the 3rd gen rangers. Still a great article for someone doing their own build that needs some quick info

The 04 4.6 2v generation got 8.8s.
