Notice the 2 pull tabs that are located above the headlight housing when you open the hood. Just pull the tabs straight up, I did notice the outter tabs took a little more grunt. After pulling the headlight housing out of the grill twist the black ring to release it and unplug the wiring. Remember when putting the new bulb in do not touch the bulb glass, thats why I have rubber gloves on.

The Following User Says Thank You to torkum For This Useful Post:
i wish i had come across this thread about 2 months ago when i was doing my hid convertion, would have saved me alot of scrapes on the back of my hand and not to mention the neighours looks at my interesting use of the english language. I actually un-bolted the water res for the rad and took out the air cleaner to get at the driver side head light bulb. I could figure out why it felt like i was working on a foreign import instead of a ford lol. Great advice and pictures thanks again , very usefull

I know this thread is a little old. But I just have to give my thanks. I was changing my headlights after my passenger side went out and whoa man, let me tell you. I have five brand spanking new cuts on my hands. They are sooo awesome. I have... Fat hands. It comes with being chubby, and I finally said, "Poo on you truck, I'm going to go onto my favorite F-150 site and see if this can be done simpler!".... Well, a Mountain Dew and a ham sandwich later I checked it out.. Five minutes later I was all done~ So all in all, Thanks for saving...Er, almost saving my hands. If only I'd have been 5 minutes sooner~

Great pictures and write-up...the only thing I would add is that the tabs that you pull up to get the housing out, need to be pushed back as well...the link below shows a free video for how to replace the headlights for a 1999 Ford F-150...pretty good
