Default xlt reg cab 4x4 with 3.7 L

Ok, I really need your help on this one. I wanna get a new 11 f 150 reg cab short bed 4x4 with a 3.7 L. Wondering if it`s a good choice. Haven`t tried a 3.7 L yet. My wife wants to get the 5.0 but gas is 5$ usgallon around here We tow a trailer, couple of times each year but not everyday, around 4000 lbs fully loaded. I`ve seen a lot of comments for the 5.0 but not much for the 3.7. I need something less thirsty than my current 5.4 2004. Comments ??

I don't own a 3.7 but living in Canada myself I can definitely relate to your worries about mpg with those outrageous gas prices that we have here. Anyway in case you havent read this review has quite a lot of good info in it. Hopefully someone with a 3.7 will post here soon as it would be interesting to see some real world #'s (also with light towing).

Thanks for the link, kryten, lots of details good report. Sadly, it looks like this 3.7 L is a seller mainly for bottom lines f150 . No one owns one in this forum ? After this review looks like a great v6 but the wife is an ex mustang owner so when I told her the 5.0 was coming in a f150 her face looked like this one !!
Anyway this week should be the one where i`m gonna see my salesman.
By the way, my f 150 is a second vehicle and where doing 7k a year.
Might be a tough one to convince her that the 3.7 is a better choice at 29 mpg vs 27 on the highway with the 5.0.

I get no where close to 27 on the highway. I get 21 if I've got the cruise control set and no wind on flat road.

Well, the more I see mpg numbers for the 5.0 it makes me feel like there`s not a world of difference with my 5.4 except for the power probably. Looks like you are a bit deceive with your mpg silver bullet ?

Depends on how you drive it and how it is set up. Regular cab 6.5 bed 2wd 3.55 gear driving for mileage I get 18 in town and 21-24.5 on the Hwy. Stick your foot in it or sit in rush hour traffic and watch the gauge drop. I was going to get the 3.7, but I was on the fence as I usually tow so I kind of figured MPG towing 2500lbs would be a push. My wife said "get the truck you want , or you will be back in two years wanting to trade it in." That was all it took, and boy am I glad. She love's it too, after she blew off a wannabe street racer the day we switched cars. . This truck has some series *****.

Thanks for the info Loki 5.0. Did you test drive a 3.7 L before choosing your 5.0 ? Nice one you got there. Here in Canada we can`t get the stx reg cab, only supercab, that`s why i`ll go with a xlt...

I did drive a xlt scab 3.7. 2wd. It ran real strong after 3500. Real strong revs! . You will like this info.

after reading the link you gave me, my wife reminded me that were doing around 5 000 m a year with our truck, (she wants a 5.0 but doesn`t pay a dime on gas) I want the 3.7 L for fuel economy, but I don`t know, we have a 2004 with a 5.4, will I get used to a v-6 ,not sure, in the past i`ve had f 150 with inline 4.9, good engine but what a dull sound it had !!
