The OP posted pictures as to why a guard is necessary. I would guarantee you that I would damage the IC within a year without one. I generally replace windshields on an annual basis. My IC guard went on yesterday.

Tested my intercooler yesterday and it's good!!!
Grill should be installed by the weekend!!
