I don't see how an grill will help. I've ran my talon with an aftermarket IC for years with a huge opening (more than twice the size of my truck) for several years and never got a dent like that. Of course i was running an Aluminum IC but that shouldnt make a difference. I don't see a point of having that "guard". You will never see a huge rock that will cause damage to an intercooler on the expressway. Even if you are on a gravel road the rocks shouldnt even hit your intercooler . If a truck is in front of you then you are the one to blame when you fully know that a rock will dent your intercooler (and f*ck up your paint)

The OP posted pictures as to why a guard is necessary. I would guarantee you that I would damage the IC within a year without one. I generally replace windshields on an annual basis. My IC guard went on yesterday.
