Default Why is the rev limiter so low on the 5.0?

Ive noticed on vids that show a stock f150 5.0 only revs to 5,500 rpm but the mustang gt can rev another 1,000+ rpms. I know pistons, im, and cams are different, but can the f150 safely rev like the mustang without premature wear?

I've also seen vids with people installing their 5star tune that allows the truck to rev to 6,500 rpms and the truck seems like a totally different beast. The only thing that worries me is the new tsb that ford came out with to void the warranty if this is done.

I would guess that the cams, intake, etc. were matched to generate more low end power on the F150 and are not as efficient above 5500 rpm unlike the mustang which was meant to make more power at higher rpm. Just my idea.

Because Ford intended people to use them for trucks, even though it shares the same motor as the mustang.

So is the 3.7 f150 not intended to be used as a truck? Same power and rev limit as the mustang v6.

It's an intake limitation and it's to allow the motor to last longer since it is meant for a work truck application.

The way this motor is tuned for a truck, anything above 5500 may only be noise.

I'm sure it could rev above 5500 without much harm, but there is really no point since it doesn't make any more power.

My 2 cents i think shifting a little later keeps the next gear around the peak torque of the engine.. Your right its about done for power at 5500 but its holding its own out at 6300-6500. I would agree this is a truck and when towing i want peak torque on all shifts.
