Ive seen this mentioned before but never a real answer to this question?


Personally I have experienced this with my truck (2013 EB FX4 20,000kms) vs a dealer loaner 2012 Lariat (100,000kms)


I got into the dirty dusty loaner and drove home thinking that it must have a 5.0 or something because it felt stronger, snappier. My 2013 almost feels lazy.
I was surprised when I got home and lifted the hood to see the same EB as my truck has.
Is it the factory tune?

Yes I believe it's the tune. The 13 actually has bigger turbos so more power to,be had.... Tune your truck and you will see....

Was the Lariat on tow/haul mode by any chance?

Noticed the same thing with my old 11 vs my current 14. The 11 tuned would burn tires at will 1-2 and chirp 3rd. My tuned 2014 barley breaks the tires loose and they are the stock scorpions. The 11 had 285/65/20 bfg ko. It felt so obvious to me that I contacted stage 3 and asked them if their warranty tunes through mike where detuned.

My 14 is faster than my 2011 w/3.73s. But it's not exactly a fair comparison. My '14 is about 500 lbs. lighter and has 4.10 gears.

Nope. I had two different tunes in my 13 and the difference was huge. One was better than stock but still far weaker than my tuned '11. Then I changed tuners and oh my. Now it's way faster than my '11. Almost scary fast and the mpg went up from stock by 2 mpg with both tunes on my '13. My advice is to tune it or change tunes if you aren't satisfied.

Mike at 5* told me that this isn't true. I emailed him awhile back and he said the 13's don't make anymore power then the 11-12's.

Well what's true is mikes tune may not.... Bigger turbos everything else the same. Mike does not have the most powerful tunes. They are ok but others seem to be able to get more safe power. Unless mike says stock they are the same. If so, it makes my point.
