I have a 5.0 (tuned) and use premium fuel (E0). If I had an Ecoboost I would use high octane fuel. I have a high output turbo car and use premium fuel (E0). Turbo engines LOVE high octane fuel! Full synthetic oil for sure.

No tunes or anything and I run the cheapest regular (87) I can find in my Ecoboosts. No issues here.

As for oil, the SHO gets either Pennzoil Platinum (if I change it) or whatever the dealer uses.
The F150, I'll be doing the changes and it will be Pennzoil Platinum.

You're likely wasting money on the 89. Drive your normal driving on a tank, let it get down until the light comes on, then put in 87 and do the same. You won't see an MPG difference or performance difference IMHO that justifies anything higher than 87. If you tow, some note that high octane (93) does yield an MPG difference that justifies the cost WHILE TOWING.

That's not entirely true. I drive 1300 km per week and tested the mileage on all three octanes available in my area. I do get at minimum 1 km/100L increase for each octane above 87. There are also performance differences with each. The truck feels more responsive on the higher octanes.
Now, the mileage increase doesn't seem like it's equalling the cost increase but when I go into my Gas Cubby app and filter out the different octanes, they are all saying it costs $0.17/km. so according to the app it's all even.

I just checked the accuracy of the apps cost/km since it rounds out:
87 octane is $0.1683/km
89 octane is $0.1686/km
91 octane is $0.1659/km

I was the guy who for so long only used premium when towing and 87 the rest of the time. But then experience in driving and information from reading lead me to believe that these are high performance engines and run best on premium. 1) Ford recommends premium for the stress of towing and summer heat. 2) Ford says that premium gives the engine 20 more HP and 10 more Ft/Lbs of torque. 3) I get better fuel mileage with premium fuel COMBINED with a premium tune.
As for oil, any full synthetic in the grade recommended by Ford. If you change oil every 3000, the blend is fine. 6000 or more OCI, I would use the full synthetic and have had Mobil One 5W30 since the first change. I may switch to Pennzoil Platinum when that runs out because it is top notch and cheaper at WalMart.

Seeing the very slight decrease in cost on the 91, I think I'm going to run that for a while and collect more data.

I run 93 octane fuel and for this oil change I am using Castrol Edge 0w-40 and a Motorcraft filter.
