Oh bother.
Agreed with the above. Grab a set of iridium plugs and gap them .030 or .028. Your truck will appreciate it no matter what the tune. FYI, the snug pressure is VERY light 11in/lbs... when you set the plugs. Also drivers bank, middle plug, be careful when extracting the coil... the plastic shroud can catch easily and break.

I haven't installed mine yet as I only have 9K on the SP-534s. The Brisks I have are conventional design. You don't want the weird design Brisks. Brisk Silver Racing RR15YS is what I got for the next swap.

Sorry for your experience 8wood. READ VERY CLOSELY I AM NOT DEFENDING BUT ONLY OFFERING ADVICE:
8Wood, prior to loading the tunes did you re-gap your plugs? If not that is one of the things you "should" do with any of the aftermarket tuners. Gap them down to .032-.030. I also recommend going with the SP-534's....seriously try this first.
----Read all my tuner recommendations and I always caution guys who run Shawn's tunes as their first ones....REASON---they are insanely touchy, fast, and some of us run pretty high boost numbers----my truck has ran higher than requested boost from both of tuners...datalogs are hidden in a locked thread somewhere.
Don't give up totally on Shawn, yet. A lot guys come back and love the tunes...but if this is your first set---they'll make you nervous. I know you have a 630hp mustang----(I've had 360HP stealths, 12 sec fastbacks, 14sec SS's...you get the point)----but SSinc tunes are characterized by insane amounts of throttle tip in---they can be lightened but they are no longer a Shawn Ellis tune.
You could blind fold me and load tunes from my different tuners and I could tell you exactly who created it. Seriously for what you want...Try Unleashed Tunes...little less tip in, good boost, good shifts. My knock numbers are slightly higher on Torrie's tunes but they "feel" more tame.
Shawn's knock numbers for me never max beyond 2.99* and I've got a tune pushing 20+lbs almost across the board.
Check out Torrie's tunes, and then re-visit Shawn's tunes. I run SSinc as a daily driver....but I also drive daily in basically a SHO with less torque reduction and a locked 50/50 AWD when I'm working.
I have tons of datalogs...to be honest it's a royal pain the rear to extract it, re-size it, and post a pic of the graph.

Complete newbie to tunes here, but have been reading the forums about them for months. Still apprehensive about getting one, at least for a bit until I get some more miles under my belt.
In the meantime, what's this about a spark plug gap? I hadn't read about that before. So you're saying that for any tune I might get, just flashing the tune is not enough - I have to do something to the spark plugs, too? Is this something someone who's never done anything remotely similar to it (at least what it sounds like) can do? Is it required, or merely suggested?

Regardless of tune, iridium tipped plugs gapped at .030 will make the engine run smoother and eliminate spark blow out at high boost.
And for those that do not want the unreal performance of the T4 perf or street, ask for the T4 snow and ice. To me, it is a fantastic DD - what stock should have been!

Tunes put extra stress on the plugs by increasing the boost. Increasing the boost on any turbo'd or blown vehicle can blow out the spark if the gap is too wide. I never had any problem with misfires but did have a rough idle, I put in new SP 534's gapped at .025 and idle smoothed out and no misfires. I run the SSI T4 performance tune as a daily driver, only time it's changed is when the weather is really bad. We don't get much snow usually so the road is usually dry.
I was one of the first 4 or 5 to get Shawn's Ecoboost tunes and the very first version did shift a tad hard on 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, but I called him and 10 minutes later had smooth shifting tunes for replacements. I've never had any problems since and whenever there has been an update he just sends it to me. I haven't even had to ask. Now he has many more customers and he does take a little longer to get around to everyone, you may just have to remind him, a phone call can do wonders.
He is in the process of recovering all his files from a 'wasted' laptop, he will take longer than usual to get tunes until his computer is back up to speed.
