Default I don't get all this catch can stuff

I've got an,11 Ecoboost with 40k on her once Chaney the oil every 7k or do with mobile1 full synthetic and a wix or k&n filter plugged changed at 10k and30k fuel service done at Ford to clean to end and I normally ruin StarTron fuel additive and 89 Oct gas. Have an AFE stage two intake and SCT LiveWire canned tune getting about 14 mpg city this is an FX4 with 3.73 gears on stock toys with a 2" level. It's my DD. Only 2 issues back window black term was getting riff texture and fog light had moisture in it dealer replaced both. Back window ducked cause I had to get new decals made. Other than that no other issues. Long rant I know. Just don't understand all the fuss over a few things done of you obsess with that will make your Ecoboost better I know we all believe in a little "snake oil" here and there but geeeh. Rant over. Start bashing now............excuse any typos using Swype text on my phone.............

Please for the love of dog tell me that you typed that on your phone or you were drunk.
On that note, the purpose of the catch can is to collect refuse that would otherwise make it into the engine, seems that during cold, humid weather a lot of stuff collects and could cause harm in the long run.
Cheers

If that is the result of Swipe, I'm glad I have an iPhone. That's just totally ridiculous that it would allow one to type such jargon.
However, I do agree with the catch can being snake oil. That's if I'm reading right!

Some of the stuff my large can collected in the last rain storm which lasted several days looked like water floating on an oily mixture but it didn't evaporate away even after over a week sitting on the shelf it still remained the same glop in a glass, a oily base with bubbles of a watery mix floating on top in a ratio of about 4 to 1 but remained the same as when I drained it. The water floating like globules appeared to be like a liquid paraffin mix. Total of 4 tablespoons of the glop over 2 days and 540 miles of driving thru the rain. This is the stuff that builds up in the CAC. The bubbles won't burn, it won't evaporate it just congeals into what you see. While the 5/8" hose from the Valve cover is hot near it the rest and the 3" diameter can remain cold to the touch mounted by the horns.

The problem with that crap getting in the intake of a DI engine is that once in the intake, it heats up and builds up places like the the intake valves... over time this degrades performance, makes for rough running, etc.

On Multiport injection, the intake ports and the valves are under a constant fuel spray. The solvents/detergents in the gasoline do their thing and keep things clean, and stuff does not really build up. it makes its way to the cylinders, gets burnt, and everything stays pretty happy.

That fuel system, cleaner you are putting in your tank of your DI engine is able to clean your injectors and piston tops, but it misses the rest of the intake tract. The only way to get the rest out is with a manual cleaning or having a chemical cleaning done (BG makes something).. And if you are wondering, yes, it really can degrade performance significantly. The VW, BMW, and Audi guys have been fighting this issue for years now... a quick search will show you what can happen. A good catchcan setup can mitigate most of these issues and vastly prolong cleaning times. It also helps keep years and years of this goop/oilymess/crap out of your CAC and other places it should not be so those parts can continue to do their job efficiently.

^That is just what it does for the DI/Turbo guys... For the 5.0 (and 3.5TT and everyone else) It still helps keep the intake tract cleaner, but it also increases the overall octane of the fuel air charge in the cylinder, reducing detonation which allows more timing and in turn increases power. Many of the guys using "good ones" report mileage increases (.5-2.0mpg) from all this as well. Lastly, it should reduce tailpipe emissions and theoretically should prolong emission component (Cats, o2 sensors, etc) life.

As for snakeoil, many of them are just that. Nothing more than a "feel good" piece. Others like the fully optioned UPR cans, the RevExtreme, and a few more (their names are in a thread here somewhere) actually work as advertised.

For me the MPG leveled out to .1 or .2 tenths per gallon middle instead of bouncing around 1 to 3 MPG differences per tank. I'm convinced this is the destiny of all direct injected motors and Cac's eventually.

I'm convinced of this too. BMW appears to have realized these help and seem to be actively employing similar solutions. If you google images "BMW oil separator" you can see some, and some cutaways for yourself. Sadly, you also will find threads of separator failures, so I guess they are still working on it. LOL

40,000 miles and my oil has never looked watery or light brown color. .I hesitation at all in rain or Sun. I live in Georgia Alabama line and drive through deep rain all the time motor always runs smooth to me. And yes BG is good just did it at the dealers a few weeks ago. Maybe I'm not knowing what I listening for or looking for. I'm getting normal gas mileage and all. I have the Ecoboost
