I heard the same thing that It was the 11's and early 12"s but I am seeing posts in forums and youtube videos from people with 13"s and 14's, also Mustangs with 5.0's extending into later yrs too.

Here is my feeling.
There seems to be 3 noises going on in these 5.0's.
1. A tick most commonly heard from the passenger side wheel well. ( I Have This 24/7)

2. A knock or harder tap sound when warm ( I have this but it is intermittent) I think Ive noticed it only hot days.

3. A metalic tapping ticking that is different from #1 that happens right after oil changes (at dealership)regardless of type of oil full syn or MC Syn Blend, for the first couple hundred miles. ( Mine does this but only a few times intermittently, but loud.

I have 25K miles now and 600 miles on the present MC oil. last oil change they couldnt hear anything so I took it home , went for a 20 mile drive and pulled into a store put it in park and it sounded like someone was in there tapping to an irregular beat with a hammer , loud too, drove about 2 miles and it was gone. I told the dealer next oil change they have to keep it for a couple days and the senior tech will drive it as his personal vehicle until he hears #1 and #3.
#2 noise will probably have to wait until its a constant or hot weather.

I would like to think these things are something limited to early production yrs and have been fixed or figured out but I doubt it. Maybe the cylinder distortion issue has been taken care of in the newer engines but part of me tend's to think that there is something else causing the cylinder distortion then defective builds. (Heat)

Some interesting Information in this thread if you filter through it. start at page 1 though.

I read the 5.0 Coyote doesnt have steel cylinder sleeves but plasma coated, durability and precision is a question for me ,
read here :
http://mustangforums.com/forum/5-0l-...der-walls.html

Id love to see it get figured out
I think there is a TSB out for the metallic scratching/tapping sound and i thin it is usually on the passenger side related to the Cam phaser and maybe timing chain. I read it somewhere on this forum I believe. I have found what I believe is a exhaust leak on the passenger side of my truck,so next week Friday i will take it in and I am going to ask them to check the light knock sound I hear. If I go ahead with a oil change I am going to request they cut open my oil filter to check it for metal. Also if you notice I believe the passenger side fender well is more open than the driver side so noise variances will be there.

Tossing this in...
The Essex Engine Plant sticker (on my driver's side valve cover) shows my engine build date is "220213" (Feb 22 2013). I'm not sure what the timeline is for the updated engine blocks were but reading online, 2013+ received the updated engine block design but then I read on here that some 2013 and 2014 5.0L are still making this tapping/knocking noise.

My 2013 had the block swapped out with 17,000 miles. It was a 2013 built on 11/13.

Default knock

mine is doing the same as the video but even louder!! I have 89,000 miles and no warrantee. Ford tore the motor down and said the #4 cyl was oblonged. If ford knows of this problem why is there no class action suite agains them? There are suites for mpg and all kinds of stuff that isn't really related to safety and ford is not recalling these truck for this problem?? Can a couple of people who have had this motor repair even if under warrantee give me the dealer they had it done at so if ford trys to say they haven't heard of it before I can tell them to check the record at dealer ect ect and ect..... Hopefully this will show them that we all know that we are not isolated problems and they need to do something about it should we have problems!!! thanks

Just got my truck back yesterday late afternoon. Sounds great right now, like night and day. But I havent had a chance to really check it out and under various circumstances. They replaced the timing chain tensioner and arm, along with water pump. They said both were making noises. They said cylinders sounded fine. Im hoping thats all it was. Will be going up to the mountains this weekend so Ill get a better listen when its hot. But right now it sounds like a different engine.

Ill update on Monday.

They said I had cylinder wall distortion. That it was a bad block. It was replaced under warranty. They said the same thing. That they never heard of it. They called their tech line. And they said that was the problem. They never tore down my motor. They just swapped it. Its obvious I had a problem by the sound. It was done in auto nation Ford miami,fl
