Default Went to the Redding Drag strip last night... VIDEOS ADDED!

Ran three times after waiting three hours. It started to sprinkle and they said only street tires could run. I was first in line when the announcer said they would let the "slow street cars go". So I made my pass after laughing a little bit because I figured I'd run low 12s and surprise the announcer. The crowd was yelling as I was drive back and as I drive close to pickup my slip I realized they were yelling at me because I shocked everyone and they were yelling in praise. I heard the announcer say my frist time. First pass I pulled a 11.89 @114... against a 12mph head wind, getting slightly sideways on launch (because it was sprinkling), and letting the computer shift(figured it would be a slow run) which caused it to shift to 4th.

The second two times the timers weren't working so no times. The second run they pushed my to the front of the track because apparently I was the crowd pleaser. The last run I iced down the blower and ran against a friend of a friend that has a chevelle SS 496 (I think) that was running 11.1-11.2 all night and he beat me by about a car and a half with me manually shifting. Needless to say, everyone was impressed. If the timers had been working or I had manually shifted the first run I'm sure I'd have a new fastest 1/4 to report.

Good news is my A/Fs were great with the new BAP.

There's supposed to be a video of at least one run, I'll see if I can get that up. I'm always so focused on racing I forget videos, sorry.

Chevy made a 396, 427 and 454 back in the day. 496 would have to be some kind of specialty block or a 454 bored and stroked.

496 is a 454 +.060 (468 cubic inch stock stroke) Then add a 4.250 stroke...(4 inch stroke is stock.)

GM also built a 496 in 01 (i think) was the first year in production.

Gm's 8.1 that came out in 01 in the HD trucks is nothing to write home about..... it's an oddball with a 4.25" bore like a 454 but taken from the book of Ford.....a 4 3/8" stroke. Very little in the way of interchange between it and the Gen V and older and little aftermarket support beyond the Marine stuff. Pass...... lol. It went away in the trucks with the death of the GMT800 in 2007...... no one really misses it lol.

Nice runs! Hearing that SC scream and having the pavement pass faster and faster underneath must be a blast.
