Default Well, add me to the 5.0 knocker club

29,000 miles no tune. Knock getting louder. Low idle speed only. Gotta make trip to dealer. May yank the trail grapplers and stick stock good years back on for visit. Thoughts?
Oil changed every 6,000 miles with motor craft filter. Almost ordered a tuner last month. Glad I held off.

No need to remove the larger tires, they won't deny your warranty because of them.

FWIW I have a slight "tap, tap, tap" at exactly 1000rpm, but I duplicated the noise on about 5 different brand new trucks on the lot so I conclude that it's normal at that RPM.

Also check for loose exhaust heat shields. I hear that was a problem on the five four's.

Thanks. It's definitely in the motor. I wish I knew how to post the video. I can share pics but not videos from my library.
It's not injector tick. Heavier than that. My money is on timing chain tensioners or in the rotating Assy. As soon as I touch the throttle it's gone. It's a new " knock". Past 2,000 miles. I've had a coworker as well as our security guard at work ask me what's knocking in the motor. Not cool. Can hear pretty good through the wheel wells and under the truck. Sent my vin to a buddy who is a Ford mechanic and he is checking it out tomorrow for TSB's. Whatever it is, it's getting louder. I also get an occasional cold start " kerchunk" when it first fires. AC off.

I was sitting next to a 5.0 F150 at a stop light this week and heard a eerily familiar sound. This knoocking noise occurred in my 90's vintage 5.0 mustangs that I beat the **** out of. I was surreal hearing it again and harkened back to long time ago. I had to take a double take at the truck thinkg it was 90's or early 2000 vintage rig making a sound like that and surprislingly it was a current gen. Long story short, none of my engines popped, but god dam they sounded like ****. I was repeatedly told it was lifter noise but it seems to be "inherent" in the 5.0 and straight 6 engines. Not sure why and never got to root cause, but made me cringe listening to guy in the lane next to me last week. It made me purchase GMs for years to come until Obama purchased them. Good Luck.

Went to dealer today.
Mechanic verified the knock was #4 cyl. Also for some reason thinks flex plate is a problem. Next step is the Ford required checklist stuff. But mechanic said likely a long block. I have a 2012 truck with a late 2011 engine. I'm bummed.
Gotta decide to just trade it or let them dig in. I have great equity and could get into a higher trim truck for about same payment. Or just take a shot and let them go through with it.
